Komodo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia — 29 islands and their surrounding seas, protecting the world’s only wild Komodo dragons and some of Earth’s richest reefs. What the Park Protects
Established in 1980 and UNESCO-listed since 1991, the park spans the strait between Sumbawa and Flores: Komodo, Rinca and Padar as the three main islands, 26 smaller ones, and a marine area whose currents feed reefs dense enough to carry their own dive-site guide. The headline species needs no introduction; the park’s marine half is arguably its equal.
Entry Fees in 2026
The park issues dated entry tickets at IDR 650,000 (≈ USD 40) per international visitor — a conservation instrument under an annual visitor cap, with activity components (trekking, snorkelling, diving) itemized alongside on official receipts. Park Rules That Actually Bind
Ranger escort is mandatory on every dragon trail — no exceptions, and it is the single rule that keeps incidents vanishingly rare. Drones need a separate park permit arranged ahead. Wildlife is never touched, fed or baited; single-use plastics are restricted; vessels anchor at designated points; and reef etiquette (no touching, no gloves) applies park-wide underwater.
How the Park Is Zoned
The park operates zoned use: core sanctuary zones closed to visitors, wilderness zones for guided activity, and use zones where the treks, anchorages and dive sites sit. In practice the zoning reaches you as routing — your captain and rangers know which bay is open to whom, which is one of several reasons independent boating inside the park is not a thing.
