From Bali to Komodo Island 2027: Flights, Boats and Costs

from Bali to Komodo Island

Last updated: September 2026 · Prices & availability verified for the 2026/2027 season

The route from Bali to Komodo Island is short and it has one fixed shape: a direct flight from Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo (LBJ), then a boat. Our reservations desk arranges that sequence every week, from the Bali transfer to the phinisi waiting at the harbour, and packages it end to end as our Komodo tour from Bali (3 to 4 days door to door).

If you would rather see the whole journey as one arranged package, with VIP airport handling in Bali, flights, transfers at both ends, the sailing itself and a single invoice, the full service list is on our Bali to Komodo Island tour packages page. Each of the 16 services is numbered, so you can choose only what you need.

Starting from a specific corner of Bali? We keep dedicated route guides for each area our drivers collect from: Ubud, Seminyak, Canggu, Uluwatu and the Bukit, and Nusa Dua and Sanur, each with realistic drive times and the airport timings that work.

Quick answer: For most visitors, flying from Bali to Labuan Bajo and continuing by boat is the most straightforward route: a direct flight from Ngurah Rai (DPS) to Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo (LBJ): about 1 hour 15 minutes, several departures a day, typical one-way fares USD 40 to 80. At Labuan Bajo harbour you board a phinisi: shared 3D2N cabins from USD 300 per person, private phinisi from USD 5,300 as a 2D1N whole-boat package (Malca Voyages, 1–12 guests; 3D2N from USD 6,000), or the door-to-door package from USD 5,000 per person (2026 published rates, checked 11 September 2026; 2027 departures quoted on request).

  • Cost: flight USD 40 to 80 one way; shared cabin from USD 300 per person per 3D2N voyage; private phinisi from USD 5,300 as a 2D1N whole-boat package (Malca Voyages, 1–12 guests; 3D2N from USD 6,000).
  • Park charges: Park entry and activity charges are quoted separately for your itinerary. Ask our reservations desk for an itemised breakdown of government charges and any additional services before confirming.
  • Duration: flight about 1 h 15 min; airport to harbour about 15 minutes; 3 days 2 nights is the standard sailing.
  • Route: DPS to LBJ by air, then by boat from Labuan Bajo harbour into Komodo National Park. Every route, by air, sea or land, passes through Labuan Bajo first.
  • Best months: April to November dry season; July to September is the busiest stretch.
  • Booking window: fix the boat first, then flights, then hotels; peak-season and school-holiday sailings fill one to two months ahead or more.

Bali to Komodo at a glance: distance, flight time, what it costs

Komodo Island sits inside Komodo National Park, off the western tip of Flores, and Labuan Bajo is the only gateway. The flight is the fixed piece of the trip; the boat is the variable one, and the boat is where the cost moves. The table below puts the working numbers in one place. Cabin, charter and package prices are 2026 published rates on komodoluxury.com, checked 11 September 2026, with their basis stated; flight fares and local transfer costs are indicative and change daily. Taxes and fees as stated on the vessel page and quotation. 2027 departures are quoted on request by the reservations desk.

Key takeaways

  • Three ways exist on paper: flying, the public ferry chain, or bus plus ferry. For most visitors, flying is the most straightforward, at about 1 hour 15 minutes from Ngurah Rai Airport to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo.
  • Every route, by air, sea or land, passes through Labuan Bajo first. Komodo Island itself is reached only by boat from the harbour.
  • The dry season, April to November, brings the calmest seas and the clearest water. There is no accommodation on Komodo Island; you sleep in Labuan Bajo or on the boat.
  • Exploring Komodo National Park means a boat from Labuan Bajo: a one-day speedboat trip, a shared 3D2N cabin, or a private phinisi charter, depending on your group and budget.
  • Book the boat before the flights and hotels, arrive in Labuan Bajo the day before a shared departure, follow the ranger’s instructions near the dragons, and pack reef-safe sunscreen and a refillable water bottle.

How to get from Bali to Komodo Island: the three transport options

Travelling to Komodo Island means passing through Labuan Bajo, the harbour town on the island of Flores with the nearest airport. Whichever mode of transport you choose from Bali, the road ends at Labuan Bajo harbour, and a boat takes you the rest of the way to Komodo Island. Below are the three options for how to get from Bali to Komodo Island, with an honest verdict on each.

TransportRoute and durationVerdict
By planeDirect flight from Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) to Komodo Airport (LBJ), about 1 h 15 minThe practical option and the one we plan every trip around. Several airlines fly daily. Book this.
By boatPublic ferries from Padang Bai to Lembar (Lombok), on to Bima (Sumbawa) and Labuan Bajo; 24 to 36 hoursSlow, scenic and low cost. Not a route the reservations desk arranges, and not a way to meet a fixed sailing date.
By bus and boatMulti-step: Padang Bai, Lembar, Kayangan, Poto Tano, Bima, Sape, Labuan BajoThe lowest fare and the longest journey. For travellers with days to spare who want to see Lombok and Sumbawa on the way.

From Bali to Komodo Island by plane

Flying is the efficient way to travel from Bali to Komodo Island. Direct flights from Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) to Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo take about 1 hour 15 minutes; scheduled block times vary between roughly 1 hour 10 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes depending on the airline and aircraft.

AirAsia Indonesia, Batik Air and SuperAir Jet have flown the route direct, and Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Wings Air and TransNusa also operate DPS to LBJ services in different seasons. Timetables change, so check the day’s schedule rather than an old screenshot. Morning departures land in Labuan Bajo by mid-morning, which is the timing that suits both a same-day private boarding and a relaxed hotel night before a shared sailing. This is the choice for anyone with limited time who wants to spend it on the water rather than in transit.

From Bali to Komodo Island by boat

The public ferry route from Bali to Labuan Bajo is a multi-leg chain rather than a single direct crossing, and the phinisi sailings arranged by the reservations desk board at Labuan Bajo harbour. What exists is a public ferry chain: Padang Bai in east Bali to Lembar on Lombok, then onward via Bima on Sumbawa to Labuan Bajo Port. Allow 24 to 36 hours from Bali to the harbour depending on the vessel and the connections.

It is a low-cost, slow and scenic way across the archipelago for travellers with time to spare, and the sea views are real. It is not a route our reservations desk sells or arranges, and it is not the way to reach a boat that departs on a fixed morning. If the ferry appeals, build in a buffer night in Labuan Bajo before any sailing date, because ferry timetables slip and a phinisi cannot wait.

From Bali to Komodo Island by bus and boat

Bus-and-ferry tickets bundle the same island chain into one itinerary, usually sold as a package so you simply follow the printed schedule. The trip begins with a ferry from Padang Bai to Lembar in Lombok, then a road transfer to Kayangan Port in east Lombok. From there you cross to Poto Tano Port on Sumbawa, continue by road to Bima, ride a bus to Sape Port, and take the final ferry to Labuan Bajo Port.

It is the lowest fare and the longest journey, with several changes and overnight stretches. It suits travellers exploring Lombok and Sumbawa on the way. For anyone with a boat departure to meet, fly. If you are starting from Lombok rather than Bali, read Lombok to Komodo: boat or flight before deciding how to cross.

Three ways to do Bali to Komodo in 2027 (compared)

Strip away the brochure language and a Bali to Komodo trip comes in three formats. All three start with the same flight. What changes is the boat, and how much of the chain you hand to one team. The starting prices are 2026 published rates, checked 11 September 2026; 2027 departures are quoted on request by the reservations desk once your dates are fixed. The cabin row prices one berth and the charter row one whole boat; the package row is per person end to end, so its total depends on the vessel and on whether you take the whole boat or a cabin.

  • Format: Fly + open-trip cabin (shared 3D2N). From (USD): 300; Priced per: Person, per 3D2N voyage; Best for: Solo travellers, couples and pairs of friends happy with a set date; You book yourself: DPS to LBJ flights, Bali nights, the Labuan Bajo hotel night before sailing.
  • Format: Fly + private charter. From (USD): 5,300; Priced per: Yacht, per package (2D1N/3D2N by guest band), whole boat; Best for: Families and groups of six or more who want their own dates and route; You book yourself: DPS to LBJ flights, Bali nights, a Labuan Bajo hotel night if wanted.
  • Format: Door-to-door package. From (USD): 5,000; Priced per: Person, end to end; final total depends on the vessel; Best for: Guests who want flights, transfers and the sailing on one invoice; You book yourself: Only the international flight to Bali.

Fly and take a cabin on a shared sailing

The Komodo open trip is a scheduled 3 day 2 night sailing on a phinisi from Labuan Bajo. You book one en-suite cabin and share the deck with other guests; the vessel, crew, route and inclusions are the same as on a charter. Cabins start from USD 300 per person per voyage and run to about USD 850 for the top cabins with private balconies; weekday (Monday to Wednesday) departures start from USD 220. Sailings run twice a week, Friday to Sunday and Monday to Wednesday, year round. Meals, guide and snorkelling gear are included. You book the flights and any Bali or Labuan Bajo nights yourself, and the desk arranges hotel pick-up on the morning of departure. The lead time is the cabin category, not the sailing: the upper-deck cabins go first.

Fly and charter the whole phinisi

A private charter gives your party the entire boat, your own departure date and a route agreed with the captain. Charters are priced per night for the whole yacht, never per person, so the cost per guest falls as the group grows: expensive per head for two, competitive for ten to fourteen. Luxury-class phinisi start from USD 5,300 as a 2D1N whole-boat package (Malca Voyages, 1–12 guests; 3D2N from USD 6,000), which on the published page is a 7-cabin vessel for up to 21 guests; boutique phinisi start from USD 1,800 per night, and the ceiling of the published fleet is about USD 30,000 per night. The 3D2N Komodo tour page lays out the private itinerary and prices by boat class. Flights are booked separately; the desk coordinates airport pick-up, harbour transfer and boarding from the moment you land. Lead time is longer than for a cabin, because a whole boat on a specific date is a scarcer thing than one berth.

Take the door-to-door package

The Bali to Komodo Island tour packages put the whole chain on one invoice: return Bali to Labuan Bajo flights ticketed by our team, private car pick-up from your Bali hotel, VIP handling at both airports if you want it, an optional hotel night in Labuan Bajo, and a 3 day 2 night phinisi sailing. The package starts from USD 5,000 per person end to end (2026 published rate, checked 11 September 2026). The figure moves with the vessel you choose and how you take it, whole boat or a cabin, and the reservations desk issues one total for your combination; component prices are not quoted separately. A 7 day 6 night private version is published from USD 8,000 per person, and whole-boat versions are quoted by the desk once the vessel is chosen. Komodo Luxury handles the sea; sister companies in the same group handle the Bali airport and the road. The only thing you book yourself is your international flight to Bali. Lead time follows the boat inside the package, so the same rule applies: fix the sailing date first.

Fly from Bali to Komodo Island: flights, airlines and airport transfers

The best way to get to Komodo Island from Bali is by plane. It is the fastest option and it leaves the most time on the water. Your journey begins with a flight from Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) in Bali to Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo, the gateway to Komodo Island.

Getting to Ngurah Rai on time is the first job. A taxi works from the south of Bali; from Ubud or the Bukit, allow more road time than the map suggests. Guests on the door-to-door package are collected by private car and, at the terminal, met by a VIP domestic departure team who take the bags at the kerb and complete check-in. The same team can meet your international arrival the night before and drive you to your hotel or villa; both services sit on the build your journey list. For what to expect on landing in Bali, from immigration queues to the drive south, read our Bali airport arrival guide for Komodo guests.

Direct flights and typical fares

Several airlines fly DPS to LBJ direct. Budget carriers such as Lion Air, Wings Air and AirAsia Indonesia typically sell one-way seats for USD 40 to 80 when booked ahead. Garuda Indonesia sits higher, roughly USD 80 to 150 one way, with meals included. Batik Air, SuperAir Jet and TransNusa also fly the route. Non-stop block time is about 1 hour 15 minutes; a one-stop routing via Surabaya adds a connection and is rarely worth the saving.

Airfares vary by airline, date and how far ahead you book, so compare the options for your exact dates.

Two rules keep the flight simple. Take the earliest direct departure you can face, because a morning landing gives you the whole day in Labuan Bajo and a buffer if the timetable shifts. And book the boat before the flight, so the departure date you buy is the one the cabin is held for.

Same-day boarding or arrive the day before?

This is the question the reservations desk answers most often, and the rule is short. For a shared sailing, arrive in Labuan Bajo the day before. For a private charter or the door-to-door package, a morning flight that lands by about 11:00 allows a midday boarding, with the exact time confirmed by the desk.

Shared departures are collected from Labuan Bajo hotels between 08:00 and 09:00 on the morning of sailing, in a staggered pick-up run, and the boat leaves once everyone is aboard. Early flights can land before the pick-up run, but the margin is thin and direct services change seasonally; check current airline schedules and, for a shared sailing, arrive the day before. So a Friday to Sunday sailing means flying in on Thursday; a Monday to Wednesday sailing means flying in on Sunday. If you fly in on the day, the sailing cannot wait for a late aircraft.

Private charters have more room because the boat is yours. The standard door-to-door itinerary runs: private pick-up in Bali at 08:00, a 10:00 flight, landing at 11:15, a 15-minute transfer to the harbour and boarding at 12:00, with the first stop at Kelor Island that afternoon. If the flight slips, the captain re-times the afternoon; that flexibility is part of what a charter buys.

The return leg has its own rule. On the final morning a shared boat docks in Labuan Bajo between 11:00 and 12:00. Book a return flight departing at 14:00 or later, which leaves time for the harbour transfer, airport check-in and any operational delay. Private itineraries can disembark earlier when agreed in advance; the 7 day 6 night package, for example, disembarks at 08:00 for the flight back to Bali. If you already hold an earlier ticket, tell the desk before you sail rather than at the pier.

One more timing point sits in Bali itself. Denpasar immigration is slowest between 18:00 and 21:00, when most long-haul flights land. Arrive in Bali on Day 0, sleep, and fly to Labuan Bajo on Day 1 with the day in hand. The tour starts on Day 1, not on the day your international flight lands.

Indonesian airline baggage rules

Keep an eye on luggage weight if you fly from Bali to Komodo Island. Cabin and checked baggage allowances vary by airline and fare class, so read the fare rules when you book. Soft bags stow better than hard cases in a phinisi cabin. If you are leaving a suitcase behind for the sailing, our note on luggage storage in Labuan Bajo covers the options.

How to find the best-value flights to Komodo from Bali

Whether you are a seasoned traveller or new to this destination, the right fare makes the journey smoother and the budget tidier. Several habits help, and our separate guide on how to find lower fares to Komodo from Bali goes into the fare tactics in more depth.

  • Use flight comparison tools. Comparison sites let you check prices across airlines and agents in one search. Include both budget and full-service carriers, and read what the fare includes before you compare headline numbers.
  • Flex your travel dates. Fares vary with the day of the week and the season. If your boat date allows it, use the “whole month” view to find the lowest days to fly; mid-week and off-peak dates usually cost less.
  • Set up price alerts. Track fare changes with an alert so you are notified when prices drop or rise for your route and dates.
  • Choose non-stop flights. Direct flights are faster and simpler. If time matters, filter for non-stop only, even at a slightly higher fare.
  • Check the full-service fare before dismissing it. Once a checked bag is added, the gap to a full-service ticket can be small, and the higher fare classes are easier to change if the boat date moves.
  • Expand your search to nearby airports. Lombok is the other realistic starting point for Komodo. If your Bali plans are flexible, compare it, then read how the crossing works in our Lombok to Komodo Island guide. Fixed-date departures from Lombok are listed on our Lombok to Komodo tour package page.
  • Book early, or wait, but never gamble on the connection. Booking early usually secures the better fare; last-minute fares can fall in the off-season. Neither matters if the flight lands after the boat has gone, so fix the boat first.

How long does it take to reach Komodo Island from Bali?

The time it takes to reach Komodo Island from Bali depends on how you travel to Labuan Bajo and on which boat you take from there.

  • By plane: the flight from Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) to Komodo Airport (LBJ) takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. At Komodo Airport a short taxi ride reaches Labuan Bajo harbour in about 15 minutes. From the harbour, the gateway islands of Kelor, Kanawa and Sebayur are within about an hour, and Komodo Island’s Loh Liang ranger station, about 40 km out, is roughly 2 hours by speedboat or 4 to 4.5 hours by phinisi at cruising speed, depending on sea state and tide.
  • By boat: the public ferry chain from Bali to Labuan Bajo takes around 24 to 36 hours depending on the vessel and connections. From Labuan Bajo the boat leg into the park is the same as above.

Guests who have pre-booked with Komodo Luxury are met at Komodo Airport by our team and escorted to Labuan Bajo harbour to begin the Komodo Island boat trip.

How long is the flight from Bali to Komodo Island?

About 1 hour 15 minutes gate to gate on a direct flight, landing at Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo. Airlines publish block times between roughly 1 hour 10 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes, so treat the shorter figure as the flying time and the longer one as the planning time.

Schedules change with the season and the weather, so book ahead for holiday periods, and prefer an early departure. An early morning flight gives you the most of your first day once you arrive in Labuan Bajo, and a margin if anything moves.

Best time to visit Komodo Island from Bali

You can visit Komodo Island year round, but the weather and sea conditions are generally best from April to November. In these months the water is calmer, it rains less, and visibility for snorkelling and diving is usually much clearer. July to September is the busiest stretch, and the better cabins on shared sailings are typically gone months in advance. Late season, September to December, brings quieter bays and smaller groups on board, and September and October sailings fill fastest within it. Our best time to visit Komodo guide goes month by month.

If you want the trip arranged rather than assembled, consider a Bali to Komodo Island tour package. These packages take care of the flights, the transfers and the sailing so you can focus on the islands, whether you are hiking to see Komodo dragons or snorkelling over the reefs. To avoid crowds, look outside July and August, and check the sea forecast before you travel.

2027: why the boat is now the least flexible piece

For 2027, sequence the trip flights, boat, villa, and treat the boat as the fixed point. Three things have changed the order of operations. First, the park authority runs visitor registration inside Komodo National Park and tickets are issued for a specific entry date, so a sailing date is also a park date. Second, multi-night departures in festive and school-holiday weeks close first, and the cabins that sell out are the upper-deck ones with private bathrooms, long before a boat is full. Third, the 2027 open-trip dates are already set and on sale, while 2027 rates are quoted on request until the published tables carry them.

The practical sequence is this. Book international flights to Bali. Fix the boat date with the reservations desk and pay the deposit stated on the payment link, because cabins and charter dates are held only once it is received and allocations move in real time. Then buy the DPS to LBJ flights around that date, and let the Bali villa flex around what remains. Morning DPS to LBJ flights make the connection routine in either direction, so the Komodo leg drops neatly into a two-week Bali stay.

Park entry and activity charges are quoted separately for your itinerary. Ask our reservations desk for an itemised breakdown of government charges and any additional services before confirming. The mechanics, from registration to what the dated ticket covers, are in our guide to Komodo National Park fees and permits. For the wider 2027 calendar and which windows move first, see the Komodo liveaboard 2027 booking guide.

Accommodation on Komodo Island

There are no hotels on Komodo Island. The island is part of the protected Komodo National Park and overnight stays on it are not permitted. Your bed is either on the boat or in Labuan Bajo, the town that serves as the gateway to the park.

Labuan Bajo has a wide range of accommodation, from guesthouses and mid-range hotels near the harbour to resorts and villas along the coast with views over the bay. For the night before a shared sailing, anything within the standard pick-up area works; if you choose a resort outside town, tell the desk so the morning collection can be timed for it. For the luxury end, see our guide to the top luxury hotels in Komodo, and for what has opened recently, new hotels in Labuan Bajo.

Island hopping with a Komodo boat tour

Please note: Komodo Island, inside Komodo National Park, is reached only by boat from Labuan Bajo. Whether you travel from Bali to Labuan Bajo by air, sea or land, you will still take a boat to reach Komodo Island itself.

The boat is the trip. Options run from a one-day speedboat loop, to a shared 3 day 2 night cabin, to a private phinisi charter of 2 to 10 nights, and each gives a different version of the park. All of them let you snorkel and dive the reefs, walk with a ranger to see the Komodo dragons, and climb the viewpoints. Plan the boat around the experience you want, then fit the flight to it. Here are the destinations and activities inside Komodo National Park.

A. Destinations

Komodo national park map

Komodo National Park is known for its dramatic landscapes, clear water and rich marine life, and for being the home of the Komodo dragon.

An overnight boat trip takes you to the park’s best-known stops from Labuan Bajo: Komodo Island, Manta Point, Padar Island, Kelor Island, Taka Makassar, Pink Beach, Kanawa Island, Siaba Island, Kalong Island and Manjarite Island.

B. Activities

In Komodo National Park the rugged terrain and clear water set up a full range of outdoor activities. Here is what you can do there.

Snorkelling and diving: Komodo National Park is a destination for divers and snorkellers, with rich marine biodiversity and reefs full of life. Manta Point and Siaba are about 20 minutes apart by speedboat; Batu Bolong lies off Komodo Island.

Trekking: the park offers varied trekking for anyone who enjoys a walk, across rolling hills, savannah and dry forest, always with a ranger where dragons live. Padar’s ridge walk at sunrise is the classic.

How to choose a trusted Komodo Island tour operator

Book the Komodo Island boat tour well in advance. Boat availability in Labuan Bajo is limited and popular departures can be full one to two months before the date. Book through an operator registered with the local tourism authority in Labuan Bajo, ask for written inclusions, and check that the park ticket is itemised rather than buried. Komodo Luxury is a luxury yacht charter group and phinisi operator sailing from Labuan Bajo since 2015; every vessel on our pages is booked directly through the Komodo Luxury reservations desk, with the same written inclusions whichever boat you choose.

Our Komodo Island tour packages let you sleep on board a phinisi with a guide, snorkelling equipment, life vests and meals included. There are three formats to choose from.

A. Komodo boat tour: private sailing tour

A private sailing tour suits families and groups of friends. The entire boat is reserved for your party, and you choose the destinations and the duration with the captain. Komodo Luxury offers three boat classes for this format: deluxe, VIP and VVIP. The price depends on the vessel, the duration and the facilities on board, and is quoted per yacht per night.

Banner Private Tour Komodo Island

B. Komodo boat tour: open or share trip

The open or share trip suits solo travellers, couples and small groups who enjoy meeting other people on board. You take one cabin on a scheduled phinisi sailing into Komodo National Park at a per-person price, with the same crew service, meals and equipment as a charter. Shared cabin and private cabin options are explained in our shared cabin vs private cabin note.

C. Komodo boat tour: one day trip

The one day trip suits travellers who want to see Komodo National Park with limited time. A speedboat covers the headline stops in a single long day, so bring the stamina for an early start and a late return.

Tips for the trip from Bali to Komodo Island

Visiting Komodo Island from Bali rewards travellers who love nature and wildlife. It also involves several stages: a domestic flight, a night or two in Labuan Bajo, and the boat trip itself. Plan each stage in the right order and the trip runs itself.

  • Choose the best time. Komodo can be visited all year, and each period offers something different: dry-season clarity from April to November, quieter bays late in the year, greener hills in the wet months.
  • Plan the trip budget. Set aside funds for the flight (USD 40 to 80 one way is typical), the boat (a shared cabin from USD 300 per person, a private phinisi from USD 5,300 as a 2D1N whole-boat package (Malca Voyages, 1–12 guests; 3D2N from USD 6,000)), park entry and activity charges (quoted separately for your itinerary), a hotel night in Labuan Bajo, meals in town and personal spending.
  • Book the Komodo Island tour first. Confirm the boat before you buy flights and hotels. Boats are often fully reserved one to two months before departure because availability is limited.
  • Arrive in Labuan Bajo the day before a shared sailing, because hotel pick-up runs between 08:00 and 09:00 on the morning of departure.

Travel tips in Komodo National Park

Visiting Komodo National Park from Bali is a wildlife trip as much as a beach trip. Here are the essentials before you go.

Infographic - Travel Tips in Komodo Island, Komodo National Park

1. Follow local ranger guidelines

Komodo dragons are wild animals, so a local ranger guides you at all times on the islands where they live. Stay with the ranger and follow the instructions when near the dragons, even when they appear calm.

2. Reef-friendly sunscreen

Wear cool clothing, reef-friendly sunscreen and a hat to protect your skin from the heat on Komodo Island. Reapply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every two hours. Avoid products that contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, which damage coral.

3. Ready your water tumbler

Bring a refillable water bottle with you in Komodo National Park. It keeps you hydrated through trekking, diving, snorkelling and the heat of the day.

If you lose it, a bottled water is fine, but do not leave plastic anywhere in the trekking areas or the sea. The park is the animals’ home.

4. Menstrual period, no worries

Any kind of blood can attract Komodo dragons. Women can still visit Komodo National Park during a menstrual period, as long as a Komodo ranger accompanies the group. Stay close to the ranger throughout the walk.

5. Swim in a secure area

Swimming and snorkelling are permitted at Pink Beach, Manta Point, Manjarite and off Kanawa Island, in the areas your guide and ranger indicate. On a boat tour the tour leader and ranger keep guests out of the water in trekking areas where Komodo dragons are observed, such as the docks at Rinca Island or Komodo Island. Longer itineraries may pass Nusa Kode, where dragons live on the beach in the wild; you can see them from the boat at a distance, but swimming and landing are not allowed there.

6. 1001+ moments, 1 trip

Bring your camera. Komodo Island is a photographer’s destination, from swimming beside manta rays to the view from the Padar ridge, and the light on the water at the end of the day.

Labuan Bajo Production Drone View

If you want underwater footage, drone views from the peaks and more, we recommend our authorised partner, Labuan Bajo Production, which provides a professional photographer and videographer with a full camera kit and experience in underwater work.

Start your Komodo Island tour from Bali

To sum up: there are several ways to travel from Bali to Komodo Island, by plane, by ferry, and by bus and ferry, but the way that works is the flight from Ngurah Rai Airport to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo, about 1 hour 15 minutes, followed by a boat from the harbour. Book the boat first, fly in the day before a shared sailing, and take a return flight at 14:00 or later.

Once you have picked your route from Bali, the next decision is what happens on the water. Komodo Luxury arranges the full journey, flights guidance, Labuan Bajo pick-up and a phinisi cruise through the national park, in one booking via its Komodo tour from Bali packages, from one-day speedboat trips to multi-night private charters. To have the flights, transfers and sailing arranged on one invoice, start with the Bali to Komodo Island tour packages page and tell the reservations desk your dates.

  1. I am interested in visiting Komodo island and to perhaps dive in its surrounding water. Do you recommendations?

  2. Loved your guide on how to trip from Bali to Komodo Island! It’s really helpful and detailed. I’ve been planning a trip to Komodo Island for a while now and your blog has given me a lot of confidence to book my flights and accommodation.
