Bali to Komodo Island 2027: the Flight, the Boat and One Package

Bali to Komodo Island has one shape. You fly direct from Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo (LBJ), about 1 hour 15 minutes, then board a boat at Labuan Bajo harbour for Komodo National Park. The boat is where the cost moves, and how you take it, a shared cabin, a private charter or the door-to-door package, is the decision to make before any number matters. Everything below is written the way we answer it on the desk.

How do you get from Bali to Komodo Island?

You fly. Komodo Island sits inside Komodo National Park, off the western tip of Flores, and Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo is the closest airport to Komodo Island. The Bali to Komodo Island flight from Denpasar takes about 1 hour 15 minutes; airlines publish block times between about 1 hour 10 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes. AirAsia Indonesia, Batik Air, SuperAir Jet, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Wings Air and TransNusa have flown the route in different seasons, so check the current timetable. Fares are set by the airlines and change by the day; we do not quote them. From the terminal the harbour is 10 to 15 minutes by car, and every boat into the park leaves from there.

For most visitors, no. There is no scheduled passenger boat from Bali to Labuan Bajo, and the phinisi sailings our desk arranges board at Labuan Bajo harbour, not in Bali. What exists is a public ferry chain. It runs from Padang Bai in east Bali to Lembar on Lombok, by road to Kayangan, across to Poto Tano on Sumbawa, by road to Bima and Sape, and by ferry to Labuan Bajo. Allow 24 to 36 hours with several changes.

It is a low-cost, slow route for travellers with days to spare and no sailing date to meet. The desk does not sell it, and it is no way to reach a boat that leaves on a fixed morning: ferry timetables slip and a shared phinisi cannot wait. Shared cabin, private charter or door-to-door package: which fits your group?

Choose the boat mode first; the price follows from it. A Komodo open trip is a scheduled shared sailing of three days and two nights, sold per cabin, on a fixed Friday-to-Sunday or Monday-to-Wednesday rhythm. A private charter is the whole boat for your group alone, priced per package by guest band, on dates you choose. The door-to-door package is a private charter with the Bali side added, on one quotation from the desk. We are plain about the arithmetic: for a couple a private boat works out higher per person than a shared cabin; for six or more the whole-boat rate is shared across everyone on board.

Fly and take a cabin on a shared sailing

The Komodo open trip sails twice a week, Friday to Sunday and Monday to Wednesday, year round, on Malca, Ayvara, Catnazse and Naturalia. Cabins run from USD 300 per person (Malca triple cabin, three sharing) to USD 850 for the top balcony cabins (Naturalia, 2027 rate). Malca and Ayvara carry the same figure in 2026 and 2027; Catnazse and Naturalia are higher for 2027 departures, so the year of your sailing sets the figure. Cabin, meals, guide, snorkelling gear and the 3D2N itinerary are included; park charges are extra. Upper-deck cabins go first, so the lead time is the cabin, not the boat.

Fly and charter the whole phinisi

A private charter gives your party the boat, the departure date and a route agreed with the captain. Charters are priced per package for the whole boat, not per person; we do not convert it into a nightly figure. Guest count sets the band. A 3D2N package starts from USD 6,000 on Malca (1 to 12 guests, 2026 and 2027) or USD 6,200 on Ayvara (1 to 8). Catnazse is USD 7,100 in 2026 and USD 7,800 in 2027 (1 to 12); Naturalia is USD 8,200 in 2026 and USD 8,500 in 2027 (1 to 8). Take the door-to-door package

The Bali to Komodo Island tour packages page puts the chain on one invoice. It covers the private car from your Bali hotel to Ngurah Rai, domestic airport handling, the DPS to LBJ flights, a welcome at Komodo Airport, an optional hotel night in Labuan Bajo, the sailing, and the same chain in reverse. It starts from USD 5,000 per person for a 3D2N end-to-end package; the final total depends on the boat and the guest count, and the desk issues one figure for your combination. We do not price the flights, transfers or hotel night on their own: one company is accountable for every step, from your Bali hotel door and back to it. You book your international flight to Bali; the rest is on the invoice.

What time should your flight land and leave to make the boat?

For a shared sailing, arrive in Labuan Bajo the day before. Pick-up runs between 08:00 and 09:00 from hotels on the Labuan Bajo mainland, the boat sails at about 10:00, and a shared departure keeps to its published itinerary. A Friday to Sunday sailing means flying in on Thursday; a Monday to Wednesday sailing means Sunday. Same-morning arrivals are the exception: they work when you are at the pier by 09:00 and the desk has your flight number in advance. A late aircraft means a missed boat.

A private charter has more room. The standard door-to-door itinerary runs: pick-up at your Bali hotel at 08:00, a 10:00 flight, landing at 11:15, a 15-minute transfer and boarding at 12:00, with Kelor Island the first stop. If the flight slips, the captain re-times the afternoon. Same-day boarding on any private charter is confirmed by the reservations desk in writing before you buy a same-day flight.

On the last day a shared boat is alongside between 11:00 and 12:00 and the drive to Komodo Airport takes 10 to 15 minutes, so book a return flight departing at 14:00 or later. In Bali itself, immigration is slowest between 18:00 and 21:00, so arrive on day 0, sleep, and fly to Labuan Bajo on day 1. Package guests are met at Ngurah Rai by a domestic departure team who take the bags at the kerb and complete check-in.

Do you pick up from Komodo Airport or my hotel?

Yes. On sailing day the driver collects you from your hotel on the Labuan Bajo mainland between 08:00 and 09:00, staggered by hotel. The desk confirms the window in a WhatsApp group the evening before, and the driver calls you on the morning itself. If you have just landed, the same car meets you at Komodo Airport instead, provided the desk has your flight number. Hotels on the outlying islands sit outside the included pick-up zone, so tell the desk where you are staying before you book. On the door-to-door package you are met at both airports and driven at both ends.

What does the Komodo National Park ticket cost, and who registers it?

The park ticket is not in any boat price. It is set under PP 36/2024 as displayed by the Balai: IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, IDR 50,000 per Indonesian visitor per day (IDR 75,000 on Sundays and public holidays). Our desk registers guests, pays the park and lists the park line separately on the invoice; we do not convert it into dollars.

Since 22 September 2026 the park authority admits visitors on the date printed on the e-ticket, not before (Balai Taman Nasional Komodo, 22 September 2026). Our desk registers the ticket for your sailing dates once your passport names are in; the park requires entry on the ticketed date. Quota is the park’s, confirmed at registration; no operator can promise quota. Purchased tickets are non-refundable, and a date change means registering again for a date with available quota. What is there to do once the boat reaches Komodo National Park?

The boat is the trip. A 3D2N sailing from Labuan Bajo reaches Kelor, Kalong, Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point and Taka Makassar, with Kanawa or Sebayur on the last morning. Longer charters add Batu Bolong, Gili Lawa and Siaba; a one-day speedboat loop covers the headline stops. Two limits apply on every sailing. The ranger-guided walk is how you look for Komodo dragons, and no sighting is promised. The Harbour Master regulates all sailing, so any itinerary is tentative and may change with sea conditions.

Swimming and snorkelling are in the areas your guide and ranger indicate, never at the ranger docks on Rinca or Komodo. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and a refillable bottle. There are no hotels on Komodo Island; you sleep on the boat, and in Labuan Bajo the night before.

How do you book Bali to Komodo in the right order?

Treat the boat as the fixed point of a Bali and Komodo Island itinerary and let everything else move around it:

1. Fix the boat date first. Send your dates, guest count including children and any boat preference; we check availability for your exact dates and confirm it in writing. Guests book about two months ahead. A cabin can be held for 48 hours; the reservation is confirmed once the deposit on the payment link is received.
2. Send passport details for the park ticket. Full name as in the passport, passport number, nationality and gender for each guest; the desk registers the e-ticket for your sailing dates and confirms it in writing.
3. Buy the DPS to LBJ flights around that date. The day before for a shared sailing, a morning arrival for a private charter, and a return at 14:00 or later.
4. Book the Bali side, or hand it to the package. Bali nights and transfers can move around the boat; on the door-to-door package they sit on one invoice.
5. Pay the balance by the date on your invoice and reconfirm pick-up. Changes and refunds follow the booking terms on your invoice and our T&C page. Send your hotel name and flight numbers two days before you sail.

April to November is the dry season with the calmest seas; July to September is the busiest stretch, when upper-deck cabins go months ahead.

How far is Komodo Island from Bali?

About 520 km in a straight line between Ngurah Rai and Komodo Airport (great-circle distance between the two airports), which the direct flight covers in about 1 hour 15 minutes. Komodo Island itself lies about 40 km west of Labuan Bajo harbour: about 2 hours by speedboat or 4 to 4.5 hours by phinisi, depending on sea state and tide.

Is there a direct flight from Bali to Komodo Island?

Yes, to Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo, the closest airport to Komodo Island; the island has no airport and is reached by boat. Direct Denpasar to Labuan Bajo flights take about 1 hour 15 minutes. Several airlines fly the route, not all of them every day, so check the timetable and fare with the airline for your date.

Which airport do I fly into for a Komodo cruise?

Do I need a separate visa for Komodo if I am already in Bali?

No. Labuan Bajo is a domestic flight inside Indonesia, so the visa or visa exemption you hold for Bali covers Komodo. What you do need is the dated Komodo National Park e-ticket, which our desk registers from your passport details for your sailing dates, and a passport that stays valid for your whole Indonesian stay.

Is Komodo Airport open after the August 2026 earthquake?

Yes. The airport authority declared the runway and apron safe after the earthquake of 15 August 2026, flights were operating again that evening and Komodo National Park was never closed.
