There are no flights from Ubud to Komodo Island. The route is a drive of 1.5 to 2 hours from Ubud to Denpasar Airport (DPS), followed by a flight of about 70 minutes to Labuan Bajo, the harbour town at the edge of Komodo National Park. From there, a boat takes you to the dragons, Padar, and Pink Beach — most guests sail for three days and two nights.

Ubud to Denpasar Airport: What the Drive Actually Takes
Maps applications will quote you an optimistic figure for this drive. The real number depends almost entirely on when you leave. Our drivers cover this corridor daily, and their log reads roughly as follows.
Leave before 06:00 and the road is yours: 75 to 90 minutes, most of it quiet. Between 06:30 and 09:00, school and commuter traffic builds through Batubulan and the Sanur bypass, and the same drive stretches toward two hours. Midday sits between the two — usually 90 minutes to two hours, occasionally worse around Sanur. From 16:00 to 19:00 the corridor is at its heaviest, and two hours becomes the floor rather than the ceiling.
Our standing rule for morning flights is simple: we collect guests from Ubud around three and a half hours before departure. It feels early over coffee. It removes the one variable on this route that no one controls, and it means the airport process begins unhurried rather than tense.
The Flight
Denpasar to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo takes about 1 hour 10 to 15 minutes. Several airlines fly the route each day, with the schedule weighted toward the morning. That weighting suits the sailing timetable: a mid-morning departure from Bali puts you on deck by lunch.
We book guests onto morning flights wherever the calendar allows. Morning departures are the most reliable, and if a delay does occur there is room in the day to absorb it. Afternoon flights leave less margin, and a cancellation late in the day usually means an unplanned night in Bali. It is a small piece of scheduling discipline that spares a disproportionate amount of trouble.
One more note on timing. If you are arriving into Bali from a long-haul flight, DPS immigration is at its busiest between 18:00 and 21:00, when the intercontinental arrivals land together. Guests arriving in that window are usually better served by a night in their villa and a fresh start the next morning than by any attempt at a same-evening connection.

What the Sailing Looks Like
The standard itinerary is three days and two nights aboard a phinisi, and it is the right length. Day one is the crossing into the national park, with a first anchorage by late afternoon. Day two is the full day: the pre-dawn climb on Padar for sunrise over its three bays, a morning swim at Pink Beach, a ranger-led walk among the Komodo dragons, and — conditions permitting — mantas at Manta Point. Day three returns you to Labuan Bajo in time for an onward flight.
Life aboard is quieter than the itinerary suggests. The distances between anchorages are short, so the engine runs in stretches rather than through the night, and most of the day is spent at rest in flat water between islands. Meals are cooked on board. The crew handles the tenders, the park logistics, and the timing of each landing, which matters more than it sounds — arriving at Padar twenty minutes before the crowds is the difference between a viewpoint and a queue.
There are two ways to sail it. A share trip gives you a private en-suite cabin aboard one of our scheduled departures, from USD 300 to 580 per person for the three days. A private charter gives you the entire vessel on dates of your choosing, priced per night per boat rather than per person. When to Book
The dry season, roughly April through November, brings the calmest seas and the busiest calendar. Cabins on scheduled share trips are typically committed several weeks out, and private charters in July and August need the most lead time, since a specific vessel on specific dates cannot be conjured late. Shoulder months are kinder to short-notice plans.
Book the boat first, then the flight. The sailing date fixes everything else, and flights on this route are easier to adjust than a charter. Once your cruise is confirmed we hold the schedule together end to end, so a change to one leg does not quietly break another.
On costs: the Komodo National Park entrance fee is excluded from our rates and subject to prevailing government regulation; our team confirms the current amount when you book. It is charged once per trip, per person, regardless of how many islands you visit inside the park.
