There is no direct flight from Canggu to Komodo Island. The route runs by car from Canggu to Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS), by air to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo — a flight of about one hour and ten minutes — and then by boat into the national park. Managed well, you leave your villa before sunrise and sleep aboard a phinisi that same evening.
Route at a Glance
The journey has three legs. Canggu to DPS is the shortest in distance and the least predictable in time. DPS to Labuan Bajo is a short domestic flight, with several departures each day and the useful ones in the morning. Labuan Bajo to the islands is the part you came for: a liveaboard sailing of three days or more through Komodo National Park.
Most of what goes wrong on this route goes wrong at the seams. The drive that misses the check-in window. The transfer vendor who was never actually confirmed. Canggu, Berawa & Pererenan to DPS
The honest version first. Canggu is the most congestion-prone pocket of South Bali. The distance to the airport is only around twenty kilometres; the time can be fifty minutes or well over two hours. The lanes through Berawa and Batu Bolong were built for a village, and the traffic they now carry is not village traffic.
Timing decides everything. Before 06:00 the roads are clear and the run to DPS is closer to an hour. From roughly 07:00 the shortcut lanes between Canggu and Umalas begin to bind, Kerobokan follows, and by mid-morning parts of the grid move at walking pace. Evenings are no better, and rain makes all of it worse.
Our drivers work these roads daily. They know which cut-through between Berawa and Umalas is moving, when Sunset Road beats the back lanes, and when nothing beats leaving early. For a morning flight we schedule Canggu pickups on the early side, deliberately. We would rather have you at the airport with time for coffee than watching the clock on Jalan Raya Canggu.
The same logic covers Berawa and Pererenan. Pererenan sits slightly further out, which adds ten to fifteen minutes, rarely more. What matters is not the extra distance but the departure hour. For flights before 07:00, some guests prefer to spend the previous night closer to the airport; it is a reasonable trade, though with an early enough pickup it is seldom necessary.
The Flight
DPS to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo takes about one hour and ten to fifteen minutes. Several airlines fly the route each day, most departures clustered in the morning. The morning flight is the one to take. It lands you in Labuan Bajo before midday, which is what allows boarding and a first anchorage on the same afternoon.
Domestic departure at DPS is straightforward, and we make it more so. With our VIP domestic departure service, your bags are taken at the kerb, check-in is handled on your behalf, and you are escorted to the gate. The airport becomes a corridor rather than a task.
One note for those connecting from an international arrival: immigration at DPS is busiest between 18:00 and 21:00, when the long-haul flights land together. The Stretch We Run
Canggu, Berawa and Pererenan together are our second-busiest pickup area this month, behind only Uluwatu and Pecatu. These are our own cars and our own drivers, not a vendor booked on your behalf. The driver who collects you at your villa reports to the same operations team that is watching your flight and holding your boat.
On the other end, the chain continues without interruption. Our team meets you at Komodo Airport before the baggage belt, and the transfer to the harbour or your Labuan Bajo hotel is already arranged. The full sequence runs to sixteen services: fast-track at both airports, every transfer, the sailing itself, and optional land extensions — a two-day visit to Wae Rebo, the UNESCO-recognised Manggarai village, or a four-day overland crossing of Flores with sunrise at Kelimutu.
Nobody is obliged to take all sixteen. The chain is modular: choose only the services you need and leave the rest. Some guests want the whole corridor from villa door to villa door. Others want only the flight met and the boat ready. Both are normal, and both sit on one invoice either way.
The return works the same way in reverse. After disembarkation, our VIP departure service at Labuan Bajo handles the airport, our team receives you again at DPS, and the car that takes you back to Canggu is ours. You will land in the late afternoon in most cases, which keeps you clear of the worst of the evening traffic on the way home.
Remote Work Note
Canggu runs on laptops, so this deserves a straight answer. Our boats carry Starlink and onboard wifi. At anchor, on a clear day, the connection is often good. Under way, between islands, it fluctuates — and any operator who promises otherwise is not being honest about conditions at sea.
The working assumption should be three days semi-offline. Messages will send, eventually. Files will sync, in windows. A scheduled video call is a gamble we advise against taking. If a deliverable is due mid-trip, ship it before you sail, and tell the people who expect fast replies that replies will be slow.
Treated that way, the trip becomes what it should be. Set the out-of-office, download what you need, and let the connection be a convenience rather than a dependency. Most guests find the disconnection easier than expected. The scenery does most of that work.
The Sailing
There are two ways to board. A share trip gives you a private en-suite cabin on one of our scheduled departures, with shared decks and a set itinerary; shared 3D2N cabins run from USD 300 to 580 per person. A private charter gives you the entire vessel, your own dates and your own pace, priced per night per boat. As a group grows, the private option becomes less extravagant than it sounds.
Three days and two nights is the established format. It covers the ranger-led walks among the dragons on Komodo or Rinca, the ridge on Padar, Pink Beach, and snorkelling at the manta sites — with time to be still in between. Longer itineraries add unhurried distance rather than more boxes.
The national park entrance fee is excluded and subject to prevailing government regulation; our team confirms the current amount before you travel. It is charged once per trip, per person.

Is 3 days enough for Komodo?
