Wellenreng Liveaboard is a 25-metre traditional phinisi that carries just 6-9 guests — and that single number explains most of what makes her different in Raja Ampat. She was laid down in Tanah Beru, South Sulawesi, with an ironwood hull and a teak interior shaped by the Konjo boatbuilders whose families have been doing this work for generations. Her maiden voyage was to Flores. Today she spends the October to May season working Raja Ampat out of Sorong.
Measuring 25m x 6m across three decks, Wellenreng Liveaboard Boat Charter sleeps 6-9 guests, in three air-conditioned cabins: one Master Cabin with a king bed and two Deluxe Cabins with queen beds, each adding an extra single bed, a private en-suite bathroom and hot water. Nine crew including a dedicated cruise director run the vessel, which works out at roughly one and a half crew for every guest on board. The dive operation is built around three to four dives a day with night dives included, nitrox as standard, 12L and 15L aluminium DIN and INT tanks, and a 7-metre fibreglass tender on twin 40hp outboards that drops you on the site rather than near it.
Because she is small, Wellenreng can hold in the shallow bays and reef passes that 40-metre liveaboards have to skip — the lagoons at Wayag, the limestone maze around Misool, the mangrove edges at Gam. Between dives there is a shaded outdoor dining area, an indoor salon with a library of fish and bird identification books, a sundeck with loungers and beanbags, and a shaded panoramic observation deck. Two kayaks, a stand-up paddleboard and a photographer’s workspace with charging stations are on board, and Starlink Wi-Fi is included in the charter.
Wellenreng Liveaboard Boat Charter is set up for diving first, and on a six-guest boat that turns out to be the same thing as comfort. The dive deck gives every diver their own station, with freshwater rinse tanks for cameras and gear, a hot freshwater shower, and 12L and 15L aluminium tanks in both DIN and INT. Nitrox is included in the charter rather than sold as an upgrade, and oxygen with full first-aid equipment stays on board for the whole trip. A 7-metre fibreglass dinghy on twin 40hp engines makes three to four dives a day realistic in Raja Ampat, night dives included.
Above the waterline the main deck holds a shaded outdoor dining area, an indoor salon for meals and dive briefings, the galley, the cruise director’s cabin and the pilot house. One level up is the sundeck with loungers and beanbags, alongside a shaded panoramic observation deck for the long stretches between islands. All three cabins sit on the lower deck, air-conditioned, with private en-suite bathrooms and hot water, portholes, safes, bathrobes, toiletries, a small desk and reading lights. Power is 220V/50Hz on European sockets, and there is a photographer’s workspace with charging stations, a small library of fish and bird identification books, two kayaks and a stand-up paddleboard. Starlink Wi-Fi is included in the charter.

6–9 guests in three cabins. That is roughly a third of what a typical Raja Ampat liveaboard of the same length carries, and it is deliberate: smaller groups mean shorter surface intervals
She was hand-built in Tanah Beru, South Sulawesi. Construction started in August 2008 and finished in 2011 — three years of work on an ironwood hull with a teak interior. Her maiden voyage was to Flores.
Nine, including a dedicated cruise director. On a 6–9 guest boat that is about one and a half crew per guest.
