Dunia Baru Liveaboard is a 51 metre luxury phinisi superyacht built almost entirely of Borneo ironwood, or ulin, felled in the forests of East Kalimantan and shaped by the master Konjo boat builders of South Sulawesi. It is a build that could not be repeated today, because the timber alone would be nearly impossible to source. Ulin is one of the densest hardwoods on earth, and that density is something you feel underway: a steadiness in the water and a quietness through the hull.
She is the first and only BKI Classed wooden vessel operating in Indonesian waters. This classification by Indonesia’s regulatory board recognises the highest levels of construction and safety, and no other wooden boat has been able to meet its requirements. Designed by Karsten Marine USA, with interiors by Deirdre Renniers Interior Design and marine systems by NorEast Marine Systems USA, she carries one Master Suite and six Staterooms for up to 14 guests, looked after by a crew of 18.
True to her name, which means “New World”, Dunia Baru Liveaboard is offered exclusively as a private Raja Ampat yacht charter, with the whole yacht taken by one group and a minimum of seven nights. For travellers comparing Raja Ampat liveaboard options, she stands apart as the only wooden vessel in Indonesian waters to hold BKI class.
Life aboard Dunia Baru Liveaboard centres on her open kitchen, a rare feature among phinisi yachts, where the culinary team works in full view of guests around a 60 inch commercial range with teppanyaki grill, backed by a dedicated prep galley. Wellness is part of the voyage: every private charter carries two dedicated spa therapists, alongside a hot plunge, cold plunge, TRX equipment, a Technogym static bike and yoga equipment. Divers are supported by two Coltri compressors, a Nuvair nitrox generator, 28 x 80 CU and 2 x 100 CU tanks, and 14 Aqualung dive kits, one for every guest on board. Three tenders, a 6.8 m RIB with a 250 HP Yamaha and two 5.5 m RIBs, reach every reef and beach, while the FunAir Slide and Sea Pool, two 900cc SeaDoo jet skis, sea kayaks, paddleboards, a Sunfish sailing dinghy, water skis, a wakeboard and fishing gear fill the days on the water. Throughout the yacht, Starlink high speed satellite internet, a Sonos 14 zone system with 30 HiFi speakers and nine subwoofers, Imtra LED lighting and 34 underwater LED lights keep her connected and lit.
