There is a week in Europe when the light gives up. The clocks go back, the terrace furniture is stacked, and the commute home happens in the dark. In Amsterdam it lands in late October. In Munich it arrives with the first serious frost. In Madrid it is gentler, but by the December bridge the shorts have been put away for good.
That is the moment the Flores Sea is at its most generous. October, November and December sit at the far end of Komodo’s calm season, and for travellers flying out of Europe they line up with the autumn school breaks, the Spanish puentes and the Christmas window. This page is about how those pieces fall specifically in 2027, because the 2027 calendar is unusually workable for European travellers and the good dates get decided long before the season starts.
Komodo Luxury has operated out of Labuan Bajo since 2015 as PT Komodo Bahari Nusantara, part of Juara Holding Group Limited. What follows comes from that operating experience and from our own enquiry records. Where we do not have a fact, we say so rather than fill the gap.
Where the fourth quarter sits in a European year
The weather gap is at its widest
Labuan Bajo lies about eight degrees south of the equator. Daytime air temperatures hold in the low thirties Celsius through the year, and the sea stays warm enough that most guests swim without a wetsuit. None of that shifts between October and December. What shifts is the contrast. A traveller leaving Frankfurt in mid-November trades single-digit temperatures and little more than eight hours of daylight for roughly twelve hours of equatorial sun.
That contrast is the whole argument for the season. In July a European traveller leaves good weather to find good weather. In the fourth quarter the trip does something a summer trip cannot: it gives back a season that has already ended at home.
What our own enquiry record actually shows
We would rather be accurate than flattering here. The fourth quarter is not the busiest part of our European inbox; the summer holidays still are. What the fourth quarter gives you is a better ratio rather than a bigger crowd. Two patterns do hold consistently in our records: within fourth-quarter enquiries, October outweighs November in every European market we serve, and France is the single largest European source of enquiries we receive, ahead of Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
The practical consequence is that October dates come under pressure first, November stays open longest, and December splits into two completely different markets on either side of roughly the twentieth of the month.
Fewer boats on the same anchorages
Padar at sunrise in August is a queue. Padar in early November is a hill with a handful of people on it, and the same holds for Pink Beach and the ranger trails on Rinca. For a traveller who came for the landscape rather than for the company, that difference is the real argument for the season.
What the sea does between October and December
The three month pages carry the day-by-day conditions in full detail. What matters for a 2027 European plan is the shape of the quarter, which runs like this.
October: the last full month of the dry season
October is the tail of Komodo’s dry season and, in most years, the most settled month of the quarter. Crossings between the northern and southern sectors are usually comfortable, visibility at the northern sites is typically at its annual best, and the hills still hold the bleached-gold colour that gives the park its savannah look. Our page on Komodo in October covers the conditions properly.
November: the quiet transition
November is a transition. The first rains usually arrive during it, but as short, heavy afternoon showers rather than as sustained bad weather, and mornings are frequently clear. The hills take on a green cast that photographers either love or find unfamiliar, depending on which pictures they saw before booking. It is also the month that needs the most honest conversation about sea state, because crossings to the southern sites can be livelier than in October. Our page on Komodo in November sets out what that means in practice.
December: green season, and the start of the manta window
December brings the wet season proper to Flores, and something else with it. The nutrient conditions that arrive with the seasonal shift concentrate plankton along the channels of the park, and manta rays gather where the plankton does. Karang Makassar and the surrounding feeding and cleaning stations are at their busiest with mantas from roughly December through February.
Two caveats belong here. Mantas are present in Komodo all year, so December is when the odds improve rather than when the animals appear. And no operator can guarantee a wildlife sighting, whatever the season. What December does reliably deliver is greener islands, dramatic skies, fewer boats outside the festive fortnight, and a better statistical chance at the park’s signature encounter. Our page on Komodo in December weighs the trade-offs, and our overview of Komodo dive sites explains where those encounters happen.

How the 2027 European calendar falls
This is where 2027 differs from a generic season guide, and it is the part worth planning around. The fixed public holidays below are calendar facts and can be relied on. School holidays are not: they are set region by region by education ministries, they move between years, and we will not print dates we cannot stand behind. Check your own regional calendar and send us the week you are locked into.
| Market | Fixed 2027 dates that matter | How they fall | Typical search language |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spain | 12 October, 1 November, 6 December, 8 December | 12 October 2027 is a Tuesday, so it bridges with the Monday before. 1 November is a Monday. The December pair falls Monday and Wednesday, which makes the Constitution and Immaculate Conception block the longest usable window before Christmas. | crucero Komodo octubre 2027, vida a bordo Komodo diciembre |
| France | 1 November | All Saints is a Monday in 2027. The Toussaint school break straddles late October into early November, with exact weeks set by the ministry. | croisiere Komodo octobre 2027, croisiere plongee Komodo |
| Germany | 3 October | German Unity Day 2027 falls on a Sunday, so it adds no bridge day that year. Herbstferien vary by Bundesland and spread from early October into early November. | Komodo Kreuzfahrt Oktober 2027, Komodo Tauchsafari |
| Netherlands | No fixed autumn public holiday | Herfstvakantie is a single October week, staggered between the northern, middle and southern regions. | Komodo boottocht, Komodo liveaboard oktober |
| United Kingdom | 25 December, 1 January | Christmas Day 2027 falls on a Saturday and New Year’s Day 2028 also falls on a Saturday, which pushes the substitute days into the following week. | Komodo liveaboard 2027, Komodo boat trip October |
One scheduling detail catches European travellers every year. Under the current rules, European clocks go back on the last Sunday in October, which in 2027 is 31 October. Labuan Bajo runs on WITA, or GMT+8, and does not observe daylight saving, so the gap from most of continental Europe widens from six hours to seven at that point, and from seven to eight for the United Kingdom. If your enquiry crosses that weekend, the reply window shifts by an hour without anyone changing their working day.
When to lock 2027 dates
Across the liveaboard sector the typical planning window runs two to four months before departure, and the clear majority of bookings are made at least two months out. Komodo tracks that pattern closely for October and November 2027. If you want a specific vessel or a specific cabin category rather than whatever remains, three to five months is the realistic minimum, and demand for the most sought-after boats builds earlier than that.
December behaves like a separate market. The block from roughly 20 December to 2 January concentrates on a handful of dates, and the binding constraint is which boats are still sailing on your dates rather than what they cost. For the 2027 festive window, treat October 2027 as the practical deadline and move considerably earlier if you want a whole vessel rather than cabins. Our Christmas and New Year charter guide covers that fortnight on its own terms.
If you are mapping a whole year rather than a single trip, the 2027 Komodo charter calendar is the page to start from, then work backward from the holiday weeks you cannot move.
Choosing a format for a fourth-quarter trip
Three formats cover almost every European enquiry we receive in this part of the year.
- A shared cabin voyage, which suits couples and solo travellers who want the full multi-day route through the park without taking a whole vessel. Our Komodo liveaboard pages are the place to start.
- A private charter of a whole boat, which is how most families and groups travel once the party reaches six or more. That is the structure behind the Komodo boat charter and luxury phinisi options. A whole-boat charter is priced per vessel rather than per person, so the arithmetic changes quickly as a group grows, which is why Spanish and German groups often move to it once they compare it against booking several cabins separately.
- A shorter island itinerary, for travellers whose autumn break really is only a few days once flights are counted. That is what the Komodo island tour pages are built around.
Practical notes before you enquire
- There is no single-leg route from Europe to Flores. Every itinerary connects, and almost all route through Bali, with a short domestic leg on a separate ticket into Labuan Bajo. Build a buffer rather than booking the tightest possible link.
- Guests joining on the day of departure need to be in Labuan Bajo and ready by 09:00 WITA. Given two flights and a seven or eight hour time shift, we ask European guests to arrive the day before wherever possible.
- A booking is secured with a deposit, with the balance due no later than 30 days before departure. The full cancellation and payment terms sit on our terms and conditions page and are worth reading before you commit to dates.
- Komodo National Park entrance and activity tickets are charged separately from the voyage. The current structure is on our Komodo National Park entrance fees page.
- Komodo Luxury holds the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice award for 2025 and 2026, with a 4.9 out of 5 rating from more than 1,500 verified guests. The operating background sits on our company facts page.
Frequently asked questions
When do 2027 dates actually open? We keep being told to wait.
Availability for a given year opens vessel by vessel rather than all at once, so a blanket answer would be misleading. Send us the window you are working with and we will tell you plainly what is already confirmed for those dates and what has not been released yet. We would rather say not yet than hold a date we cannot honour.
Is October or November better if I only get one week off?
October, in most cases. It is the more settled of the two, it lines up with the Dutch, German, Spanish and French autumn breaks, and a single week leaves little margin if weather forces an itinerary change. November rewards flexibility instead: if your dates can move, it is the quietest month of the quarter and often the more rewarding one.
Will it rain the whole time if we come in December 2027?
Usually not. December rain in Flores tends to arrive as concentrated afternoon showers rather than as continuous grey weather, and clear mornings are common. Expect variability rather than washout: routing may be adjusted on the day to keep the vessel in sheltered water, and that call belongs to the captain rather than to a printed plan.
Can you guarantee we will see manta rays?
No, and neither can anyone else. December through February is the strongest window because that is when plankton conditions concentrate mantas at the feeding and cleaning stations, so the odds are better than at any other point in the quarter. Odds are not guarantees, and we would rather say that before you book than after.
We are twelve, six adults and six children between nine and sixteen, travelling over the Spanish December bridge. Charter or cabins?
At twelve, a whole-boat charter is almost always the better structure, both because the arithmetic turns in your favour at that size and because the day can be shaped around children rather than around a shared schedule. Send the exact dates, the ages and what the group most wants out of the trip, and we will lay both options out side by side instead of pushing you toward one.
How early do we have to commit for Christmas and New Year 2027?
Treat October 2027 as your deadline, and considerably earlier if you want a whole vessel. The 20 December to 2 January window is the tightest of the Komodo calendar, and what runs out is not price but the list of boats still sailing on your dates.
Is diving in Komodo suitable for someone who certified this year?
Parts of it are and parts are not. Komodo has current-driven sites that demand genuine experience alongside gentler sites that suit newer divers well. Tell us your certification level and logged dive count when you enquire, and be candid about it, because the honest answer is what determines which sites are appropriate for you.
Our English is not strong. Can we write in our own language?
Yes. Our team corresponds in English and handles enquiries from every European market daily, including travellers who searched in Spanish, German, Dutch or French. If you are more comfortable setting out your requirements in your own language, send them that way. A precise message in Spanish or German is more useful to us than an imprecise one in English.
Planning your 2027 window
The fourth quarter is the part of the Komodo year that fits European life best, and in 2027 the Spanish bridges, the Toussaint break and the German autumn holidays all fall in workable places. The useful next step is not to browse further. It is to tell us the dates you cannot move.
Send your window, your group size and what you most want from the trip through our contact page, or by WhatsApp on +62 811-3823-875, and we will come back with what genuinely fits those dates rather than with what is easiest to sell.
