“Does the boat have Wi-Fi?” usually arrives as the last message before a guest confirms a cabin, and it rarely travels alone: air conditioning, somewhere to charge a phone and whether the shower runs hot come in the same breath. Our reservations desk answers these four questions on WhatsApp every day, and the honest answer is always per vessel and per departure, never a blanket yes. This guide sets out what each of the four VIP phinisi on our rate card states on its own page, what depends on weather and ship power, and what we confirm in writing for your dates before you pay.
Quick answer: Naturalia, Ayvara, Malca Voyages and Catnazse all list air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms; charging runs off the generator supply. Of the four, only Ayvara’s page states Starlink. Mobile signal is usually available around Labuan Bajo and limited deeper in the park. Our fleet page shows how Collection and partner yachts are organised; the table below links each boat’s page. Send your dates and we confirm in writing.
The four comfort questions guests ask before confirming a cabin
Wi-Fi, cool cabins, charging and hot water are one decision for most guests: will I be comfortable and reachable for three days at sea. We answer them vessel by vessel because the boats differ, and departure by departure because equipment, routing and weather change what a given night at anchor feels like. A phinisi built in the traditional style (see our luxury phinisi range) can carry modern air conditioning and satellite internet; whether yours does is a specification on that boat’s page, not a property of phinisi in general. So the desk reads the vessel page, checks with operations where the page is silent, and puts the answer in your written confirmation. What is confirmed in writing is what stands.
Wi-Fi at sea: mobile signal versus Starlink
Where mobile signal works and where it fades
Mobile signal is usually available around Labuan Bajo, the harbour town where most Komodo trips begin and end, and this is where calls, uploads and video work best. Once the boat sails deeper into Komodo National Park, connectivity becomes limited or intermittent: it depends on the route, the weather and where the boat anchors for the night, and the same bay can give you messages in the morning and nothing by afternoon. Northern anchorages and the outer dive sites (see our Komodo dive sites guide) are best treated as offline. If your route includes an open-water crossing, such as the one-way Lombok to Komodo sailing, plan for long stretches without any signal at all.
We do not quote coverage percentages or rank carriers, because coverage is outside any operator’s control and shifts with weather and network conditions. This is how our Komodo liveaboard page describes it too. A local Indonesian eSIM or SIM, activated and tested in Labuan Bajo before you board, is still the sensible baseline for whatever signal there is.
What Starlink changes, and its real limits
Satellite internet is what makes the northern park and open crossings usable for email and messaging. Where it is installed and switched on, it works in places mobile signal never reached. Three limits still apply, and we say them out loud so nobody boards expecting an office:
- Weather and terrain. Heavy rain and steep-sided bays can interrupt the link for a while; the crew cannot move the boat to a better sky for one call.
- Ship power. The terminal runs on the generator supply, so it follows the boat’s generator schedule and any power cycles the crew carries out.
- Shared bandwidth. Everyone on board uses the same connection, so one guest’s video call competes with another’s photo backup.
Among the boats in the table below, Ayvara’s page states Starlink internet at sea. For any vessel whose page does not state it, satellite Wi-Fi is something we confirm for your departure rather than assume, and we would rather send you an accurate answer than an optimistic one.
Power on board: generator, sockets and charging
Generator supply on the VIP phinisi
Each of the four boats publishes its generator capacity on its vessel page: Naturalia lists 31.1 KVA plus 31.3 KVA, Ayvara 20 KVA plus 20 KVA, Malca Voyages 2 x 15 KVA and Catnazse a 33 KVA Mitsubishi unit (all checked 12 September 2026), which in practice powers the cabin air conditioning and the charging points; socket type, voltage and generator hours are confirmed by operations. Whether the generator runs through the night at anchor or on a schedule with quiet hours is set by each boat’s operations team, and it is a detail we confirm with them rather than generalise here: ask, and it goes into your written confirmation.
Sockets, voltage and what to bring
Socket type and voltage are not printed on the vessel pages, so we do not state them here as fact; the desk confirms them for your boat when you ask. What we recommend regardless: a universal adapter, a power bank for island excursions and long lens sessions (charging happens on the boat, not on Padar), and airplane mode in dead zones, because a phone searching for towers drains fastest exactly where charging matters most. Download offline maps, playlists, films for children and e-books on hotel or harbour Wi-Fi before boarding; the best time to prepare for the quiet zones is while you are still in the loud one. Our what to bring to Komodo checklist covers the rest of the bag.
AC and charging at anchor
Air conditioning and charging both draw on the generator, so “does the AC run all night” and “can I charge overnight” are the same question. On the boats in the table every cabin is listed as air-conditioned; how long the system runs at anchor is per vessel and confirmed by operations. If cool cabins overnight matter to you (light sleepers, young children, anyone sensitive to heat), tell the desk before you choose a boat, not after.
AC, bathrooms, hot water and Starlink, vessel by vessel
The table reads each boat’s own page as the source of truth and states only what that page says, checked 12 September 2026. Where a cell reads “confirm with the desk”, the page does not state it and we will not guess; ask, and the answer comes from operations, in writing, with your quote.
| Vessel | Cabins and guests | Air conditioning | Bathroom and hot water | Generator | Fresh water | Starlink |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Naturalia | 8 cabins, up to 24 guests | All 8 cabins air-conditioned | Private bathroom in every cabin with hot water system (water heater listed per cabin) | 31.1 KVA + 31.3 KVA | 8,000 L | Not stated on page; confirm with the desk |
| Ayvara | 7 cabins, up to 15 guests | All cabins air-conditioned | En-suite bathroom in every cabin; hot water not stated, confirm with the desk | 20 KVA + 20 KVA | 6,000 L | Starlink internet at sea, stated on page |
| Malca Voyages | 7 cabins, up to 21 guests | All cabins air-conditioned | Private bathroom in every cabin; hot water not stated, confirm with the desk | 2 x 15 KVA | 6,000 L | Not stated on page; confirm with the desk |
| Catnazse | 8 cabins, up to 18 guests | All cabins air-conditioned | Private bathroom in every cabin, suite cabins list a bathtub; hot water not stated, confirm with the desk | 33 KVA | 8,000 L | Not stated on page; confirm with the desk |
Two related guides go deeper on the cabin itself: bathrooms on Komodo liveaboards for showers, layouts and water, and Komodo boat cabin types for how master, deluxe and shared cabins differ.
Partner yachts: what we verify before you pay
The Komodo Luxury Collection is our owned and operated fleet. We also offer selected partner yachts, clearly identified on their pages and booked through the same reservations desk; the full range sits in our boat charter directory and the VIP class on the VIP phinisi page. For a partner yacht the desk does the same work with one extra step: we confirm Wi-Fi, AC, generator hours and charging with that yacht’s own operations team for your specific departure, then put it in writing. This is the same discipline as our vessel quality standard: describe what has been checked, on a named boat, on a date, and nothing more.
Working from the boat: realistic expectations
Can you work from a Komodo boat? On a Starlink-fitted vessel with the generator running, yes for email, messaging, file sync and the occasional call. What we will not promise is uninterrupted service: rain, a steep anchorage or a scheduled power cycle can take you offline for an hour, and a client call cannot be moved to a better bay mid-itinerary. Schedule anything that must not fail for Labuan Bajo before departure or after return, and treat mid-trip connectivity as a bonus. If you cannot be offline overnight, a Komodo island day tour keeps you within partial coverage and back in town by evening.
The alternative is to plan the disconnection. Couples on our honeymoon itineraries tend to describe the offline days as the point, not the price, and children who board with tablets are negotiating over who spots the next manta by day two. Set an auto-responder, tell colleagues your quiet windows, and let the park do what it does best.
How the reservations desk confirms your setup
Send us your travel dates, party size and which of the four questions matter most. We check availability for your exact dates, name the vessel, read its page and check with operations where the page is silent, then confirm Wi-Fi, AC, hot water and charging in writing alongside the itinerary. Once you decide, our sales team re-verifies the cabin, places a 2×24-hour hold during office hours (09:00 to 17:00 WITA) and sends the reservation form with your personal deposit link; the booking is secured when the deposit is made, and we ask you not to pay before the hold is confirmed.
We do not promise availability in a blog post, and we do not promise signal in a bay. Park entrance and ranger fees are quoted separately in your quotation (see park fees and permits). Departure options are on the Komodo tour 2026 schedules and in our liveaboard comparison for 2026 and 2027; the full FAQ covers pickup, meals and the rest of the booking process.

Questions our reservations desk hears
Is there air conditioning and Wi-Fi on the boat?
On Naturalia, Ayvara, Malca Voyages and Catnazse every cabin is listed as air-conditioned on its vessel page. Wi-Fi is the part we answer per boat: Ayvara’s page states Starlink internet at sea; for the others we confirm satellite Wi-Fi for your departure rather than assume it. Mobile signal is usually available around Labuan Bajo and limited or intermittent deeper in the park, whichever boat you sail.
Can we charge phones and camera batteries on board, and what plug type do the sockets use?
Charging on board runs off the ship’s generator supply, and each of the four boats publishes its generator capacity on its page; the desk confirms socket type and voltage for your boat, since the vessel pages do not state them. Bring a universal adapter either way, plus a power bank for the hours you spend ashore.
Does the air conditioning run all night while the boat is at anchor?
It depends on each boat’s generator schedule, which its operations team sets. We do not print a blanket answer because it would be wrong for some departures. Tell the desk that overnight AC matters and we confirm the running hours for your vessel and dates in writing before you pay.
Which Komodo Luxury boats have Starlink?
Of the four boats in this guide, Ayvara’s page states Starlink internet at sea as of 12 September 2026; elsewhere in the VIP class, Mosalaki’s page also lists Starlink WiFi. For any other vessel we confirm satellite Wi-Fi with operations for your departure rather than assume it. If satellite Wi-Fi decides your booking, say so first and we will point you to the vessels where it is confirmed for your dates.
Do the cabins have private bathrooms with hot water?
Every cabin on the four boats has a private bathroom. Naturalia’s page lists a hot water system in every cabin; Ayvara, Malca Voyages and Catnazse list private bathrooms without stating hot water, so we confirm it with operations for your booking. Our bathrooms guide above goes into layouts and showers in detail.
Can I take video calls or work remotely during a Komodo trip?
On a Starlink-fitted vessel while ship power is on, calls and uploads are realistic, though we do not promise them. Rain, steep bays and generator cycles interrupt service, and bandwidth is shared among guests. Put anything non-negotiable in Labuan Bajo before or after the sailing, share your itinerary and our WhatsApp number with family, and agree on quiet windows so silence reads as itinerary, not alarm.
How do I get the Wi-Fi and power setup confirmed for my specific departure before I pay?
Ask when you send your dates. We name the vessel, confirm Wi-Fi, AC, hot water and charging in writing with the itinerary, and only then place the 2×24-hour hold and send your deposit link during office hours. The written confirmation is what stands; nothing in this article overrides it.
Whether you need to stay reachable or want permission to vanish, the useful answer is always about a named boat on named dates. Start on our fleet page to see how the Collection and partner yachts are organised, pick a boat from the table above or the VIP phinisi page, then contact the reservations desk or message us on WhatsApp at +62 811 3823 875 or [email protected] with your dates and your connectivity needs. We check availability for your exact dates and confirm your vessel’s Wi-Fi, AC and charging setup in writing before you commit.
