Why is there no direct flight from Singapore to Raja Ampat?
Raja Ampat has no airport. The gateway is Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ) in Sorong, on the West Papua mainland, and no carrier flies Singapore–Sorong nonstop. Every itinerary is a connection through an Indonesian hub, and the hub you pick decides whether you board a boat on arrival day or lose a night in a Sorong hotel.
Sorong runs on Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT, UTC+9) — one hour ahead of Singapore, two ahead of Jakarta. That time shift is the reason the routing works as well as it does: an overnight sector out of Jakarta lands you in daylight without eating a day of your Raja Ampat yacht charter. Get the connection wrong and the same journey costs you an extra 24 hours.
What is the fastest sensible route from Singapore to Raja Ampat in 2026?
Singapore to Jakarta, then the overnight Jakarta–Sorong sector. The Singapore–Jakarta (SIN–CGK) leg is roughly two hours and is flown many times a day by Singapore Airlines and Scoot, so you are never short of departure times. The onward Jakarta–Sorong (CGK–SOQ) sector is about four hours in the air, operated by Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air.
The detail that matters is arrival time. Live schedules for Sorong show the Jakarta bank landing between 06:00 and 06:35, with a second, later wave arriving around midday. Six in the morning is the flight you want. It puts you at the harbour by mid-morning, which is when boats can still make a full run to the first anchorage before the afternoon wind builds.
The word “sensible” is doing real work here. The theoretically shortest routing on paper is often not the one that gets you on the water the same day. A connection that saves 90 minutes of flying but arrives in Sorong at 14:45 is a slower trip in every way that matters.
How do the connecting hubs compare?
| Route via | Sorong sector operators | Sorong sector air time | Usual Sorong arrival | Verdict for same-day boarding |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jakarta (CGK) | Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air | about 4 hours | 06:00–06:35, plus a midday bank | Best. Overnight sector, dense Singapore feed |
| Makassar (UPG) | Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air | about 2 hours 10 minutes | around 07:00, then around 14:00 | Works on the morning bank only |
| Manado (MDC) | Lion Air, TransNusa | about 1 hour 25 minutes | schedule dependent | Shortest hop, thinnest Singapore feed |
| Bali (DPS) | Garuda Indonesia, seasonal (roughly October–March) | about 4 hours | schedule dependent | Sensible only if you are already stopping in Bali |
Makassar and Manado both shorten the final hop — Manado to Sorong is only about 85 minutes — but neither hub has the Singapore frequency that Jakarta does. If the one connection you need is cancelled, Jakarta gives you three alternatives that day. Manado gives you none.
Should you book one ticket or two?
One ticket, where the fare allows it. A through-ticket protects you if the Jakarta leg runs late, and it means your bags are handled once. Where you have to split it — low-cost carriers on one side, a domestic Indonesian carrier on the other — leave a genuine buffer in Jakarta. You will clear immigration, collect checked bags, and re-check on the domestic side.
Dive kit is the other thing to plan around. Indonesian domestic allowances are tighter than the international leg you arrived on, and rebooking excess baggage at a Jakarta counter at one in the morning is nobody’s idea of a start. Weigh your bags in Singapore, not in Sorong.
What happens after you land in Sorong?
Sorong airport is small and clears quickly. From there, there are two ways into the islands. Independent travellers take the public fast ferry across to Waisai, the administrative town on Waigeo, which runs to a fixed daily timetable and takes a couple of hours across open water. Charter and liveaboard guests skip the ferry entirely and board in Sorong — on a private Raja Ampat charter the vessel and tender are waiting when you land.
One operational warning worth more than any packing list: Sorong has more than one port area in common use, and locals use the names loosely. Confirm your exact boarding point in writing before you fly, and send your inbound Sorong flight number to your operator so the transfer window is built around your actual arrival rather than a guess.
If your flight lands after the early bank, plan the night in Sorong deliberately rather than discovering it at the arrivals hall. A booked hotel and a 05:30 departure the next morning is a far better outcome than a scramble on the dock.
What does it cost to enter Raja Ampat in 2026?
Raja Ampat charges a marine park entry permit, sold as a PIN card. For foreign visitors the rate rose to IDR 1,000,000 with effect from 3 August 2026, and the permit is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase — so a second trip inside the year does not pay twice. It can be bought online through the marine park authority’s portal, at the permit booth at Sorong harbour, or at the authority’s office in Waisai.
Read the fine print before you budget. Reporting in January 2026 described the regency fee rising to IDR 1,000,000 for international visitors and IDR 300,000 for Indonesians, sitting on top of other provincial and national charges, which lifts the all-in figure above the headline number. This structure has moved twice inside twelve months, so treat any figure you read — including this one — as needing confirmation at the time you book.
For comparison, Komodo National Park’s 2026 ticket is IDR 650,000, roughly USD 40, and it is a dated ticket tied to a specific entry day rather than an annual card. Two very different systems, two very different planning problems.
Do Singapore, Malaysian, Hong Kong or Australian passports need a visa?
Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR passport holders enter Indonesia visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days. That entry is not extendable and cannot be converted, which matters if you are stringing Raja Ampat together with another Indonesian leg.
Australian passport holders are not on the visa-free list. The standard route is the electronic visa on arrival (e-VOA), grants 30 days, and can be extended once for a further 30. Apply online before you fly rather than queueing at the counter. All arrivals also complete Indonesia’s digital arrival card before landing.
When should you go — and when should you go to Komodo instead?
| Window | Conditions | What you get | Honest recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| October–April | Calmer seas, better visibility | The main Raja Ampat operating season | Raja Ampat |
| November–March | Best sea state of the year | Core months; manta reliability peaks December–March | Raja Ampat — book well ahead |
| May–September | Southeast monsoon; wind and swell strongest June–August | Most vessels pause or reposition out of the area | Komodo |
This is where a lot of Singapore enquiries go sideways. The June and December school breaks are the two natural windows for a family from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong — and only one of them is a Raja Ampat window. In June and July the southeast monsoon is running, crossings get uncomfortable, and much of the fleet has moved on.
The honest answer to a June enquiry is Komodo, where the calm window runs almost exactly opposite. A Komodo liveaboard in the mid-year months gives you flat water, short crossings and a two-hour flight from Bali instead of a two-connection haul to West Papua. We say this to guests regularly and it is not a downgrade — it is the right boat in the right sea at the right time of year.
For the Raja Ampat window itself, expect water around 27–29°C and visibility commonly in the 20–30 metre range through the main season. December to March is when manta aggregations at Manta Sandy and the Dampier Strait cleaning stations are most dependable; January and February are the months divers plan their year around.
How many nights do you actually need?
Budget one full travel day each way and the arithmetic becomes obvious. A three-night trip leaves roughly two usable days on the water, which is a long way to fly for very little. Six to seven nights is the point where an itinerary stops feeling rushed: enough to work the Dampier Strait properly and add either Misool in the south or the northern reefs, without moving the boat overnight every single night.
Lead time is the other planning number. Across our bookings the median gap between enquiry and departure is 74 days (n=1,063, November 2025 to August 2026). Raja Ampat departures in the December–March peak go earlier than that median, because the number of vessels working the area in any given week is finite and does not expand with demand.
Why charter the whole boat rather than book a cabin?
On a route this long, the boat is the holiday. Whole-boat charter means your schedule, your dive plan, your dinner times, and no negotiating a 06:00 wake-up with strangers. It also means the itinerary can flex when the weather does — which in Raja Ampat, in a shoulder month, is worth more than any listed inclusion.
Whole-boat rates run from USD 1,800 to USD 30,000 per night depending on the vessel, crew ratio and cabin count. For context on where the market actually sits, our survey of 179 vessels found 61 carrying published rates, with a median of USD 7,150 per night. Our yacht charter pricing guide breaks down what moves a rate up or down, and the same logic applies in both regions.
Vessel type shapes the trip as much as price does. A traditional luxury phinisi gives you deck space, shade and a slower, more social rhythm; a modern motor yacht gives you speed between anchorages and stronger stabilisation on a long crossing. Neither is better in the abstract. They are better for different itineraries.
Who are you actually booking with?
We are PT Komodo Bahari Nusantara, operating from Labuan Bajo since 2015, part of Juara Holding Group Limited in Hong Kong (CR 80295893). We own and operate nine yachts and work with more than 200 vetted partner vessels — and we label those two categories separately every time, because you should always know whether the crew answers to us or to someone else. You book with the operator, never a middleman.
Guests have rated us 4.9 out of 5 across more than 1,500 verified reviews on Google and TripAdvisor, and our listing holds the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award for 2025 and 2026. Payment runs through Stripe, Airwallex, AMEX, Visa and Mastercard.
If you are working out whether your dates, your connection and your budget actually line up, send us the dates and we will tell you plainly — including when the answer is a different month or a different sea. Private whole-boat charter enquiries reach the same team either way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a direct flight from Singapore to Raja Ampat?
No. Raja Ampat has no airport of its own, and no airline flies Singapore to Sorong (SOQ) nonstop. Every routing connects through an Indonesian hub, most commonly Jakarta. Plan for one connection and, on the best routing, an overnight sector that lands in Sorong between 06:00 and 06:35.
How long does it take to get from Singapore to Raja Ampat?
On the Jakarta red-eye routing, roughly 13 to 15 hours from Changi to the gangway: about two hours to Jakarta, a wait, about four hours to Sorong, then the harbour transfer. A poorly aligned connection that forces an overnight in Jakarta or Sorong pushes the same trip past 24 hours.
Which airport do I fly into for Raja Ampat?
Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ) in Sorong, West Papua. It is the only practical gateway. From Sorong you either take the public fast ferry to Waisai or board your charter vessel directly. Sorong runs on Eastern Indonesia Time, UTC+9, one hour ahead of Singapore.
How much is the Raja Ampat entry permit in 2026?
The marine park entry permit for foreign visitors rose to IDR 1,000,000 effective 3 August 2026 and is valid for 12 months from purchase. Additional regency and provincial charges apply on top. The structure has changed twice in twelve months, so confirm the current total when you book.
Do Singaporeans need a visa for Raja Ampat?
Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR passport holders enter Indonesia visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days, not extendable. Australian passport holders use the electronic visa on arrival for 30 days, extendable once. All arrivals complete Indonesia’s digital arrival card before landing.
When is the best time to visit Raja Ampat from Singapore?
October to April is the main season, with November to March the strongest months for sea state and visibility. Manta encounters at Manta Sandy and in the Dampier Strait are most reliable from December to March. Water sits around 27 to 29 degrees Celsius through the season.
Can I visit Raja Ampat in June or July?
It is possible, but the southeast monsoon is running and June to August brings the strongest wind and swell of the year. Most vessels pause or reposition out of the area in this window. For mid-year travel from Singapore, Komodo offers flat water, shorter crossings and a far easier flight.
How many nights should a Raja Ampat charter be?
Six to seven nights is the practical minimum for a trip that does not feel rushed, because you lose a full day of travel in each direction. That length lets you work the Dampier Strait properly and add either Misool or the northern reefs without repositioning the boat every night.
