Rinca Island: Komodo Dragons Without the Crowds — Loh Buaya Guide

最後更新:2026年8月 · 已核實2026/2027賽季的價格與供應狀況

Rinca Island is the second home of the Komodo dragon — and the easier place to see one. Its Loh Buaya valley holds one of the densest dragon populations in the park, a fraction of Komodo Island’s foot traffic, and a purpose-built elevated walkway that puts you safely above active territory. For many rangers, this is the better sighting, not the backup.

Loh Buaya & the Elevated Walkway

Rinca’s visitor experience was rebuilt around an elevated boardwalk that loops the Loh Buaya valley: you walk above the dry riverbed where dragons patrol, past nesting mounds and waterbuffalo wallows, with rangers leading at ground level on the connecting trails. The elevation changes the psychology — you observe dragons behaving like dragons instead of dragons surrounded by a semicircle of phones.

Rinca vs Komodo Island: Which Is Better for Dragons?

The honest verdict: see both when your duration allows — Komodo for the classic trek, Rinca for behaviour and breathing room. Only one itinerary tier includes both by default: the 4D3N Komodo tour, whose fourth day is built around Loh Buaya.

How to Visit Rinca

Rinca sits south-east of Labuan Bajo, under two hours’ sailing — close enough for day boats, best woven into a multi-day route. It headlines day four of the 4D3N, appears on every longer itinerary on the Komodo tour packages hub, and pairs with mangrove channels on the island’s north that kayakers get to themselves.

Beyond the Dragons

The Loh Buaya valley is a wildlife set-piece even without its stars: wild water buffalo, Timor deer (the dragons’ main prey), long-tailed macaques on the mangrove edge, and orange-footed scrubfowl building their metre-high mounds. For the biology of the dragons themselves — venom, hunting, senses — our wildlife library covers it; start with how big Komodo dragons get.

Fees & Rules

Rinca is inside Komodo National Park: dated entry ticket IDR 650,000 (≈ USD 40) per person, mandatory ranger escort on ground trails, no food on the walkways, drones by permit — the full system is in our permit guide.

常見問題

Are there Komodo dragons on Rinca Island?

Yes — Rinca holds one of the two major wild populations, over a thousand dragons by park estimates, with the highest sighting density around the Loh Buaya ranger station.

Is Rinca better than Komodo Island for seeing dragons?

For sighting probability and crowd-free viewing, many rangers say yes; for the classic long trek and the name in your logbook, Komodo. The comparison table above breaks it down — the 4D3N route answers it by including both.

How do you get to Rinca Island?

By boat from Labuan Bajo only — under two hours’ sailing. Most guests visit on the 4D3N or longer itineraries; day-boat visits exist but land in the busiest window.

Is Rinca Island safe to visit?

Yes, within the system: the elevated walkway removes most ground-level exposure and rangers escort every trail section. The rules exist because the dragons are genuinely wild — follow them and incidents are vanishingly rare.
