Katamaran Hotel accounts for 47 real pickups in Komodo Luxury’s transfer log — the busiest base after Ayana. Open trips board at Labuan Bajo harbor in the morning, so stay the night before, keep a small day bag packed, and leave your main luggage at the hotel. A 3D2N shared-cabin open trip starts from USD 300 per person.
Quick Answer — Pickup Time, Price, Cabin
Across 82 booking conversations with Australian guests alone, 80% asked about departure dates before anything else, 43% asked about cabins, and 42% asked about price. So here are those three answers first.
- Pickup: morning, from the Katamaran lobby. Our transfer team confirms your exact window by WhatsApp the evening before departure.
- Price: a 3 days 2 nights Komodo open trip in a shared cabin starts from USD 300 per person. The Komodo National Park fee is set under Government Regulation No. 36/2024 as displayed by the Balai (IDR 250,000 per international visitor per day, IDR 50,000 per Indonesian visitor per day), confirmed by our desk as its own line on your invoice — not per day — and our team handles the payment on the ground.
- Cabin: open trip means you book a bunk in a shared cabin on a phinisi. Couples can request a twin or double cabin on the same departure, subject to that boat’s layout.
One rule worth knowing before you plan: open trips run at a minimum of 3D2N. If you only have two days, that becomes a private charter, not a join tour. You can check live departure dates and book a 3D2N Komodo open trip shared cabin from Labuan Bajo directly on our schedule page.
Why Katamaran Works: 47 Recorded Pickups, Second Only to Ayana

We rank hotels by our own operations, not by review scores. Our transfer coordination group logs every pickup we run, and across 372 hotel mentions in that log, Katamaran Hotel appears 47 times — second only to Ayana Komodo at roughly 75.
| Hotel | Pickups in our transfer log | Transfer note |
|---|---|---|
| Ayana Komodo | ±75 | Departs from its own private jetty |
| Katamaran Hotel | 47 | Short morning drive to the harbor |
| Sudamala Resort | 35 | Beachfront, standard van pickup |
| Bintang Flores | 32 | Resort grounds, standard van pickup |
| Meruorah | 32 | Inside the marina — guests walk to the dock |
| Seaesta | 31 | Social base, popular with solo travelers |
From our drivers’ side, Katamaran is one of the easiest pickups in town. The driveway sits right off the main road, and guests wait in one obvious lobby — no phone calls to find each other. That matters more than it sounds when a single van is collecting guests from three hotels on the same morning.
The Night Before — Check-In, Dinner, and Your Boarding Brief
Fly into Labuan Bajo the day before your boat, not the morning of. Flights slip, and a missed morning boarding is a missed trip. An evening at Katamaran solves this cleanly.
During that evening you will receive a boarding brief from our team on WhatsApp. It confirms three things: your pickup window, the name of your boat, and what to bring on board. If you booked a twin cabin as a couple, the brief is also where your cabin type is reconfirmed.
Keep dinner simple and sleep early. Day 1 of a 3 day 2 night Komodo boat trip starts in the morning and runs through a full day of sailing and stops — you will be glad you rested.
Departure Morning Timeline
The pickup window at the Katamaran lobby
Be in the lobby a few minutes before the window in your brief, with your boat bag ready. The driver checks your name against the departure manifest, loads the bags, and drives the short stretch to the harbor. If anything changes on our side — weather, port traffic — you hear it on WhatsApp, not at the lobby.
Harbor boarding and cabin assignment
At the harbor, the crew takes your bag aboard and the cruise leader assigns cabins. Shared-cabin guests get assigned bunks; couples who reserved a twin or double cabin get exactly what they booked. After a safety run-through, the phinisi leaves Labuan Bajo and heads into Komodo National Park for the first stops of the itinerary — the same routing that later covers Padar and Pink Beach.
Luggage: Leave the Big Bag at Katamaran, Bring a Small Dry Bag
Phinisi cabins are comfortable but compact, and storage is limited. The standard move — and what most of our guests do — is to leave the main suitcase at the hotel and board with a small soft bag.
Pack for the boat: swimwear, sunscreen, a dry bag for your phone, motion-sickness tablets if you are prone, and a light jacket for early mornings on deck. Ask the Katamaran front desk to store your main luggage; collect it when you return on Day 3.
Which Boat You’ll Likely Board — Catnazse or Naturalia on Open Trip Departures

Komodo Luxury sails its own fleet, and two boats carry most of our open trip departures: the Catnazse liveaboard and the Naturalia phinisi. Our scheduling records show Catnazse on 179 recorded sailings and Naturalia on 178 — these are working boats with crews that run this exact route week after week, not occasional charters.
Both also show up constantly in our booking conversations: across our chat archive, guests asked about Catnazse 77 times and Naturalia 70 times by name. If your departure is instead assigned to Ayvara or Malca, you are boarding the two boats our private-charter guests usually request — a good problem to have.
After the Trip: Returning to Katamaran or Flying Out Same Day
You disembark in Labuan Bajo on Day 3. Two sensible endings:
- One more Katamaran night. Collect your stored luggage, take a long shower, sleep in a bed that does not move, and fly out the next morning. This is what most returning guests choose.
- Same-day flight. Possible, but only with a late-afternoon or evening departure. Flight timing comes up in 15% of our Australian guest chats, and our answer is consistent: do not book a tight same-day connection against a boat arrival.
Book the Bunk First, Then the Bed
The order that works: lock your departure date and cabin, then book Katamaran for the night before. Check live dates and cabin availability on our 3D2N Komodo open trip page — shared cabin from USD 300, or send our team your dates on WhatsApp and we will confirm which boat is sailing and what cabins are left.
