Cultural Village Experience
Sauwandarek, also known as Sauwandarek Jetty, is a small coastal village on Mansuar Island in Raja Ampat, home to one of the region’s most accessible and visually impressive reef environments. It features a gently sloping coral garden with healthy hard and soft corals, large sea fans, and abundant marine life just offshore from the village jetty. The site is well known for frequent encounters with sea turtles, schooling fish such as batfish, and diverse macro species, including nudibranchs and pipefish. For guests joining a Raja Ampat private yacht or curated liveaboard journey, Sauwandarek is often experienced as a relaxed highlight within a bespoke itinerary.
The best time to visit Sauwandarek is during the dry season, from October to April, when sea conditions across Raja Ampat are at their most stable and underwater visibility is consistently excellent. This period offers the clearest water at Sauwandarek Jetty, calm boat transfers, and the most comfortable conditions for both snorkeling and diving. Within this window, early mornings before 9:00 AM are ideal, when the reef is at its calmest and marine life activity is at its peak before other boats arrive.
Sauwandarek is accessible only by boat. The journey begins in Sorong (SOQ), the main gateway to Raja Ampat. From Sorong, a public ferry or speedboat reaches Waisai in approximately two hours. From Waisai, Sauwandarek on the southwestern coast of Mansuar is approximately 45 minutes by modern speedboat. From Kri Island or Arborek — the most common resort base area for the Dampier Strait — Sauwandarek is approximately 15–20 minutes by boat. For Raja Ampat liveaboard guests, Sauwandarek is a standard stop on any Dampier Strait itinerary. The vessel anchors in or near the bay, and guests take the tender to the jetty.
With Komodo Luxury, Sauwandarek is included as part of a carefully curated Raja Ampat liveaboard itinerary that is designed to time each visit for optimal conditions, rather than a simple stop on a checklist. This approach ensures guests experience the reef at its most vibrant moments, when visibility is clear and marine activity is at its peak. Rather than fixed schedules, the journey follows a fluid rhythm guided by weather, tides, and site conditions across the Dampier Strait. The result is a more seamless, private, and elevated way to experience Sauwandarek within a broader luxury exploration of Raja Ampat.

Pertanyaan & Jawaban
Yes — Sauwandarek Jetty is one of Raja Ampat's most accessible dive sites. The sheltered bay keeps currents gentle, the reef begins in very shallow water, and the gradual slope means divers of all certification levels can explore comfortably. Snorkellers can see turtles, batfish, and coral formations without descending. It is also suitable for families with children of basic swimming ability.
Sauwandarek is particularly well-known for resident green sea turtles — the site is sometimes called the 'Turtle City of Raja Ampat'. A resident batfish school typically orbits the jetty. Macro life includes nudibranchs, pipefish, pygmy seahorses, and blue-ringed octopus. The porcupine ray is a rare but regularly encountered species. Barracuda and bump-head parrotfish are often seen at the turn of the tide.
