Book two to four months ahead for full cabin choice; add more lead time for July, August, and the festive window. That answer comes from our own reservation ledger. We tracked when 1,063 guests booked relative to their departure date, and the curve below is the result. As far as we know, no other Komodo operator has published theirs.

Read it backwards: if you enquire one month before a departure, nine of every ten cabins that trip will sell are already gone. Two months out, you still see reasonable choice. Four months out, you pick freely — whether that is a cabin on a shared open trip or a whole boat as a private charter.
Peak season books earliest, and by a wide margin
The curve steepens with demand. Our August 2026 departures had sold 51% of their eventual bookings three months in advance. May departures reached the same point only one month out. If you want a specific cabin on a specific boat in July or August, the honest window is four to six months, and our earliest 2027 bookings, led by British and Australian travelers, are already arriving a year ahead.
The park quota changed the math
Booking early used to be about cabin choice. Since Komodo National Park introduced dated entry tickets under a 365,000-per-year cap, it is also about entry itself. In 2026, August dates sold out entirely and September dates were selling out five weeks ahead. A cabin without a dated ticket is half a booking, and we secure both together for confirmed guests.
Last-minute is real, with conditions
One in ten of our guests books less than two weeks before departure, and in shoulder months like November that works fine. In peak months it mostly does not: the boat may have space while the park date does not, or the reverse. If you are already in Labuan Bajo, message us anyway; cancellations open single cabins at short notice.

Can I book a Komodo liveaboard last minute?
Sometimes. 10% of our guests book under two weeks out, mostly in shoulder months. In peak months dated park tickets sell out before the boats do, so last-minute peak trips usually fail on the ticket, not the cabin.
When do most people book their Komodo trip?
The median guest in our data books 74 days before departure. Peak-season guests book much earlier: half of August bookings arrived more than three months out.
Why does the park quota matter for booking timing?

Is there a best day or month to get a deal?
