Tanaka is a 35-metre traditional-modern phinisi liveaboard built in 2014 in Bira, Sulawesi — the historic heartland of Indonesian wooden shipbuilding — from ironwood and teak. With a generous 7.4-metre beam, she carries up to 14 guests in 5 air-conditioned cabins, each with an en-suite hot-water bathroom, and sails Komodo National Park year-round from Labuan Bajo, Flores.
Her cabin plan is one of the most family-friendly in her class: two Deluxe cabins, two Superior cabins, and a Family Suite that sleeps up to six and opens onto its own private balcony. Life on board flows between an indoor dining saloon, an al-fresco dining area, a lounge and bar with library, and a broad sun deck laid out with loungers and beanbags beside a dedicated relaxation deck.
Tanaka is equally at home as a dive platform. A purpose-built diving deck, full equipment rental, tanks, and Nitrox on demand support divers of every level, while snorkelers and paddlers have a full set of snorkeling gear, two kayaks, and a stand-up paddleboard. A speedboat tender handles landings and transfers, and a watermaker backed by a 3,600-litre freshwater tank keeps the ship self-sufficient on longer itineraries. Under power she cruises at a steady 8 knots on a turbocharged 280 HP Mitsubishi engine — an easy pace for the classic Komodo circuit of Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Taka Makassar, and Manta Point.

Every cabin on Tanaka is air-conditioned with a private hot-water bathroom, and the Family Suite adds a private balcony over the water. Guests move between indoor and outdoor dining areas, a lounge and bar with library, and a sun deck fitted with loungers and beanbags next to a separate relaxation deck. For time in the water there is a full diving deck with rental equipment and Nitrox on demand, snorkeling sets, two kayaks, a stand-up paddleboard, and a speedboat tender, supported by a watermaker and a 3,600-litre freshwater tank.
