Akomo Isseki is a 27,87-metre pinisi built by the Konjo boat builders of South Sulawesi, hand crafted on the beaches of Tanah Beru from tropical hardwoods out of the forests of Kendari. Her hull sits on an ironwood keel, shaped over fires with ribs of bude timber and enclosed by a thick teak deck, and she carries two teak masts on a ketch cutter rig. A Mitsubishi 6D-40T1 rated at 360 horsepower moves her at 8 knots with a cruising range of 1400 nautical miles, and at 51 gross tons she draws 2,05 metres. She sleeps 8 guests in 4 cabins with a crew of six Indonesian hands. In Raja Ampat she works the Dampier Strait, Piaynemo, Wayag and Misool. Akomo Isseki is laid out around a covered dive deck with a dive platform, a Bauer Poseidon 250 compressor, 20 eleven litre and 2 fifteen litre tanks, weights and belts, a camera rinsing tub and a 6,2-metre tender on twin 40 HP Yamahas. Rental dive gear and dive courses come on request, and two Indonesian dive professionals work alongside the crew. The four cabins are cut from kendoli and teak, naturally vented through portholes and hatches with a fan, a wardrobe and a gadget desk in each, and the bathrooms are shared with modern fittings and traditional handcrafts. Meals are served at a communal table in the closed saloon, which carries an audio system, with beer and soft drinks on board and dietary requirements catered for. Above it sit a sun deck, a covered deck and sun seating, and snorkelling gear is available. Safety runs to a 25-person life raft, two life rings, 25 adult and 5 junior life jackets, parachute, rocket and smoke flares, twelve 6 kg extinguishers, oxygen and two first aid providers.
