A cabin name on a Komodo boat tour tells you five things: bed layout, private or per-bed sale, bathroom, deck, and how many guests it is sold for. Our reservations desk at Komodo Luxury (Labuan Bajo, since 2015) answers that list most days, because Deluxe or Superior means something different on each of the four scheduled boats. This guide explains what the six Komodo boat tour cabin types change, which cabins have a balcony, and which cabin fits a couple, a solo guest or a family. It is written the way we answer it on the desk.
Quick answer (24 September 2026): cabins on the four scheduled boats fall into six types: master or suite, upper deck, main deck, lower deck, family (triple or quad) and bunk-bed sharing. All have a private bathroom; balconies are cabin-specific. Open-trip rates run per person per 3D2N, from USD 300 (Malca Voyages Triple Room, three guests, 2026 and 2027).

What does a cabin name change on a Komodo boat?
A class name is shorthand for five lines on the boat page, and those lines are what you pay for:
- Bed layout: a double, queen or king for two; a bed plus a single for three; two queens, a queen plus bunks, or a double plus two singles for four.
- How it is sold: most cabins are private, booked for your party alone. Three are also sold bed by bed: the Triple Room on Malca Voyages, Grandis 3 and 4 on Catnazse, and Tide on Naturalia.
- Bathroom: every cabin on these four boats has a private bathroom and air conditioning; Tide on Naturalia has two. Bathtubs and jacuzzis are cabin-specific.
- Deck and window: upper, main or lower; window or porthole; private balcony, shared balcony or none. Naturalia labels the deck of every cabin; the other three boats do not.
- Maximum occupancy: the guests the cabin is sold for. An extra bed or a bunk changes the per-person figure.
The boat page and the written quotation are the reference, not the label.
From our reservations desk. Of 11,254 guest messages to our concierge desk (2025 to 2026), 1,900 fell under the cabin and sharing theme, and 1,639 messages (14.56 percent) named a cabin. What are the six Komodo boat tour cabin types?
The photos are examples from partner boats; the named cabins are on the four scheduled boats.
Master cabin or suite
The largest cabin on board, with the widest view: a queen or king bed, a private bathroom and, on the scheduled boats, a private balcony; some add a bathtub. One or two per boat, so give us a second choice. Malca Voyages sells its Master Ocean View for up to four; Ayvara sells its Master Cabin for up to three.
Upper deck cabin
Closest to the sun deck, with more daylight and the shortest walk outside for sunrise; also more movement at anchor than a cabin near the waterline, which matters if you sleep lightly. Naturalia labels its decks: Azure, Coral and Breeze are upper deck. The other three boats do not label decks, so ask the desk about the specific cabin.
Main deck cabin
Level with the dining area and indoor lounge, so fewer stairs between bed, meals and gangway. Motion is moderate: less than the top deck, a little more than below, and families with small children tend to ask for this level. On Naturalia: Sandal and Aurea.
Lower deck cabin
Closest to the waterline, with the least movement and the quietest nights at anchor; the trade-off is a porthole instead of a window or balcony. Family cabin (triple or quad)
Three or four people in one room behind one door: a queen plus bunks, two queens, a double plus two singles, or a bed plus one single. The quads are the Quad Room on Malca Voyages, Grandis 3 and 4 on Catnazse, and Breeze, Aurea and Tide on Naturalia; the triples are listed in the table below.
Bunk-bed or sharing cabin
Upper and lower berths fit three or four guests in a compact room, still with air conditioning and a private bathroom. On a shared departure some are sold bed by bed, the lowest-cost way for a solo traveller to sleep on board. Sharing cabins are mixed gender; you pay for one bed and your berth is assigned at final allocation. Ayvara has no sharing cabin.
Which cabins have a balcony, and what does a balcony cost?
Nine cabins across the four scheduled boats list a private balcony. Ayvara: the Master Cabin and both Deluxe Cabins. Malca Voyages: the Master Ocean View. Catnazse: the Santalum 1 and 2 suites. Naturalia: Azure, Sandal and Aurea, while Coral and Breeze share one. Every other cabin has a sea-view window or, on the lower decks, a porthole. The label does not tell you: a Deluxe has a balcony on Ayvara, not on Malca Voyages or Catnazse. If a photo does not show it, ask; the desk confirms the balcony line in writing.
The price gap is cleanest on one boat. On Naturalia, Lagoon 1 and 2 (lower deck, porthole) are USD 400 per person in 2026 and USD 450 in 2027. Sandal (main deck, private balcony and bathtub) is USD 800 in 2026 and USD 850 in 2027. On Catnazse the Santalum 1 suite is USD 680 in 2026 and USD 770 in 2027. Where does each cabin class sit on the four scheduled boats?
All four boats are booked through the Komodo Luxury reservations desk. Every cabin has a private bathroom and air conditioning; balconies and decks are in the section above.

Open trip cabins are priced per person per 3D2N, per cabin category. A private double assumes two guests; a triple or quad has its own figure for two, three or four; an extra bed is a separate line.
Does a private cabin mean a private boat?
No. A private cabin is yours alone; the boat is still shared. Taking the whole boat is a whole-boat private charter, priced per package by guest band, not per person. The 3D2N package in the smallest band is USD 6,000 on Malca Voyages (1 to 12 guests) and USD 6,200 on Ayvara (1 to 8). Catnazse is USD 7,100 (1 to 12) and Naturalia USD 8,200 (1 to 8), all 2026. For 2027 Malca Voyages and Ayvara are unchanged; Catnazse is USD 7,800 and Naturalia USD 8,500. Which cabin suits a couple, a solo guest or a family?
- A couple who wants privacy and a view: a Deluxe or Superior double, from USD 450 per person (Superior on Ayvara or Malca Voyages, 2026 and 2027); for a balcony, one of the nine cabins above. Each is a private cabin on a shared boat; see shared cabin versus private cabin on a Komodo open trip.
- A solo traveller: the lowest figure is a bed in a sharing cabin (Triple Room on Malca Voyages, Grandis 3 and 4 on Catnazse, Tide on Naturalia). A private double for one guest is the per-person figure twice, unless the boat lists a single-occupancy rate, as Malca Voyages does for its Double Rooms. See solo travellers on a Komodo open trip.
- A family of four in one room: a Family Room on Catnazse, the Quad Room on Malca Voyages, or Breeze, Aurea or Tide on Naturalia. Children aged three and above pay the full rate; child-sized snorkelling gear is not on board, so bring your own for children under ten.
- A family of five, or two couples: two cabins on the same boat. None of the four boat pages says which cabins sit next to each other, so the desk does not promise it; we tell you which cabins are open on your date and you choose.
What does the cabin rate include, and what does it not?
The per-person cabin rate on a scheduled 3D2N departure covers your bed, the cabin’s private bathroom and air conditioning, and all meals with drinking water, coffee and tea. It also covers a guide, snorkelling gear and life vests, pick-up and drop-off on the Labuan Bajo mainland near the harbour, and the published itinerary. Not included: flights, crew gratuities, alcohol and other drinks, personal snacks, hotel nights, and the park ticket.
The Komodo National Park ticket is excluded from the trip price and never quoted in USD. It is set under PP 36/2024 as displayed by the Balai: IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, IDR 50,000 per Indonesian visitor per day (IDR 75,000 on Sundays and public holidays). Our desk registers guests, pays the park and lists the park line separately on the invoice. Since 22 September 2026 the park requires entry on the date printed on the e-ticket (Balai Taman Nasional Komodo, 22 September 2026). How do you choose and hold a cabin?
- Send your dates, the number of guests including children’s ages, and a first and second cabin choice named as on the boat page. Guests who book through the desk do so about two months ahead.
- We check availability for your exact dates and confirm it in writing. Nothing in this guide is a confirmation; allocation moves as other guests book.
- Hold. A cabin can be held for 2 x 24 hours during office hours, 09:00 to 17:00 WITA. The booking is valid once the reservation form and deposit link are sent and the deposit is paid; do not transfer before the hold is confirmed.
- Deposit and balance. A 50 percent deposit secures the booking; the balance is due on the balance date printed on your invoice, per the booking terms on your invoice and our terms and conditions page.
- Secure the cabin before you buy flights. Day 1 pick-up is 08:00 to 09:00 and the boat docks between 11:00 and 12:00 on the last day, so book a return flight at 14:00 or later; see pickup and return times for flights. Open trips run Friday to Sunday and Monday to Wednesday.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a Superior, a Deluxe and a Master cabin on a Komodo boat tour?
It depends on the boat. On Ayvara, Superior and Deluxe both have a queen bed for two; the Deluxe adds a private balcony and the Master adds an extra bed for a third guest. On Catnazse, Deluxe (Grandis 1 and 2) and Superior (Cafasa 1 and 2) are queen doubles; the Santalum suites add a king bed, balcony and bathtub. Compare bed, balcony and occupancy, not the label.
Which cabins on a Komodo open trip have a private balcony?
Nine cabins on the four scheduled boats list a private balcony. Ayvara: the Master Cabin and both Deluxe Cabins. Malca Voyages: the Master Ocean View. Catnazse: the Santalum 1 and 2 suites. Naturalia: Azure, Sandal and Aurea, while Coral and Breeze share one. A Deluxe has a balcony on Ayvara alone (boat pages read 24 September 2026).
If I travel alone and want a private cabin, do I pay the per-person rate twice?
Usually yes. Private cabins are priced per person on double occupancy, so one guest alone pays the per-person figure twice, unless the boat lists a single-occupancy rate; Malca Voyages does for its Double Rooms. Ask the desk for the figure for your boat and date. A bed in a sharing cabin is the lower-cost alternative.
Which cabin works for a family of four who want to stay in one room?
Ask for a cabin sold for four: Grandis 3 and 4 on Catnazse (queen plus bunk), the Quad Room on Malca Voyages (double bunks), or Breeze, Aurea or Tide on Naturalia. Children aged three and above pay the full rate; child-sized snorkelling gear is not on board, so bring your own for children under ten.
Which deck is better if I get seasick or sleep lightly?
Lower or main deck, closer to the waterline and away from the sun deck and the dining area. On Naturalia that means Lagoon 1 and 2 or Tide (lower deck), or Sandal and Aurea (main deck). Ayvara, Malca Voyages and Catnazse do not label deck levels on their pages, so ask the desk about the specific cabin.
Is the Komodo National Park fee included in the cabin price?
