Book a Komodo boat tour as soon as your dates are fixed. Guests who booked with us in 2026 did so about two months ahead. July to September departures are the ones we most often answer with an alternative. Our reservations desk at Komodo Luxury (Labuan Bajo, since 2015) checks the live calendar for your exact dates and places a 2×24-hour hold once you decide. A cabin counts as secured only when the deposit on your payment link has settled. Everything below is written the way we answer it on the desk.
Quick answer (24 September 2026): no fixed booking window exists. In 2026 guests booked about two months ahead. Ask as soon as your dates are set, earliest for July to September. We check your exact dates, hold a cabin for 2×24 hours, and count it secured only once the deposit on your payment link settles.
- Basis: bookings taken by the Komodo Luxury reservations desk in 2026; median lead time counted 24 September 2026.
How far in advance to book a Komodo boat tour for 2027?
About two months ahead, and earlier for the peak months. Of the bookings our reservations desk took in 2026, the median gap between booking and sailing was about two months. That is the middle of a wide range: some guests booked a year out, others inside a week. Booking early buys choice, because a shared 3D2N boat carries only a few cabins of each category and the balcony cabins go first.
For 2027 the calendar is already open. The 2027 weekend and weekday departure tables for Ayvara, Malca, Catnazse and Naturalia are published on each boat’s page. The Komodo open trip page states that the 2027 dates are set (checked 24 September 2026), so a 2027 cabin can be checked, held and deposited today. Which month to travel is a separate question, covered in the Komodo charter calendar for 2027.
Pages elsewhere say cabins close three months out, or that a month is gone before it starts. We cannot verify figures like that, so we do not publish them; what we can verify is our own bookings, our own calendar and the questions guests send us.
From our reservations desk. Of 11,254 guest messages to our concierge desk (2025 to 2026), 854 touched availability, and 611 of them arrived in September 2026. By count: is the open trip on this date still open, 298 messages, 240 conversations. Do you have a departure on this date: 265 and 205. How much deposit holds the cabin: 188 and 112. Can you hold it while we book flights: 107 and 63. A waiting list came up in 8 messages across 6 conversations.
What does ‘available’ mean when you ask us?
It means a status, not a reservation. We read the live calendar for the boat and cabin you asked about and tell you what it shows for your dates. Cabin allocations move in real time, and other guests may be holding dates in the same period, so reconfirm with us if a day or two has passed. Cabin categories: see our guide to Komodo boat tour cabin types.
Enquiry, hold and confirmed: the three states
Every request sits in one of three states, and only the last one is a booking.
| State | What it means | What moves it forward | Who does it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enquiry | We read the live calendar and tell you what it shows for your dates | You choose a departure and cabin and ask us to proceed | You |
| Hold (2×24 hours) | The cabin is set aside for 48 hours while you return the form and pay | Deposit paid as stated on your payment link; receipt sent to us | You, inside the window |
| Confirmed | Deposit received and verified; the invoice is your written confirmation | Balance paid on the date printed on your invoice | You and our finance team |
| Released | The window passed without payment; the cabin goes back on the calendar | Reconfirm the calendar with us before paying | Our sales team, 09:00 to 17:00 WITA |
How does the 2×24-hour cabin hold work?
A hold is a decision by a person at our desk, not a button on the website. When you say you want to proceed, our sales team re-verifies the cabin, sets it aside for 2×24 hours (48 hours) and sends the reservation form with your personal deposit link. The booking is valid only once that link has been sent by our team and the deposit stated on it has been paid. Please do not transfer anything before the hold is confirmed to you in writing.
Holds are placed in office hours, 09:00 to 17:00 WITA (UTC+8); message us overnight from Europe or the Americas and your request is answered when the desk opens.
If payment is not received within 2×24 hours, the booking is cancelled and the cabin goes back on the calendar. If you still want it after the window has passed, reconfirm with us before paying, because another guest may have taken it. Extensions are not part of the policy; tell the desk before the window closes if you have a genuine constraint.
What secures the booking: deposit, invoice and confirmation?
The order is fixed and it protects both sides. First, the reservation form for all passengers and the signed Terms and Conditions, both returned to us on WhatsApp. Then the invoice with payment details. Then the deposit, which our finance team verifies. The invoice is your booking confirmation; there is no separate certificate.
Deposit and balance, as printed on your invoice
The deposit is the amount stated on your payment link. Under our published Payment and Billing Policy the standard schedule is a 50% deposit; advance-booking and vessel-specific schedules are on our Terms and Conditions page; your invoice states which applies. The balance is due on the balance date printed on your invoice. Close to departure the desk tells you in writing whether full payment is required at confirmation. Refunds and changes follow the booking terms on your invoice and our Terms and Conditions page. Payment channels and clearing times are covered in how to pay safely for a Komodo charter.
Park fees are a separate line
The Komodo National Park ticket is excluded from the trip price. It is set under PP 36/2024 as displayed by the Balai: IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, IDR 50,000 per Indonesian visitor per day (IDR 75,000 on Sundays and public holidays). Our desk registers guests, pays the park and lists the park line separately on the invoice. Since 22 September 2026 the park requires entry on the date printed on the e-ticket; quota is the park’s, confirmed at registration, never promised by any operator. Purchased tickets are non-refundable. Sources: our Komodo National Park quota update.
How early for a shared 3D2N cabin, and how early for a private charter?
A Komodo open trip is a scheduled shared sailing of three days and two nights, sold per cabin, on a fixed Friday-to-Sunday or Monday-to-Wednesday rhythm. You are booking one cabin on one departure, checked per date. Cabins start from USD 300 per person (Malca Triple cabin, three sharing, 2026 and 2027 rate, checked 24 September 2026); park charges are quoted separately. The route is on the 3D2N Komodo tour page.
A private charter is the whole boat for your group alone, priced per package by guest band, on dates you choose. It can start on any day and run from a full day to a week or more; the desk checks whether the vessel is open for your window. The private yacht charter in Komodo page explains the set-up; the Komodo private trip page shows the formats. One 3D2N reference point per boat:
| Perahu | Guest band | 3D2N 2026 (USD, whole boat) | 3D2N 2027 (USD, whole boat) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Malca | 1 to 12 | USD 6,000 | USD 6,000 |
| Ayvara | 1 to 8 | USD 6,200 | USD 6,200 |
| Catnazse | 1 to 12 | USD 7,100 | USD 7,800 |
| Naturalia | 1 to 8 | USD 8,200 | USD 8,500 |
The basis is per package for the whole boat, not per person, and we do not break it down by night. Rates are presented for review, not as a booking offer; itinerary, services, taxes, payment and cancellation terms are confirmed in your quotation. The Komodo yacht charter page compares the boat classes. Every other vessel on our fleet page is quoted on request, its calendar confirmed by the desk in office hours.
Should you book the boat or the flights first?
Cabin first, then flights. A cabin on a scheduled departure is one unit; flights have far more seats behind them. Then book flights around two fixed points. Arrive the day before departure, because hotel pickup runs between 08:00 and 09:00 on departure day. On the final day the boat docks between 11:00 and 12:00 at the latest, and the airport is a 10 to 15 minute drive away. Book a departure flight at 14:00 or later. Ask for the return time in writing first; the detail is in our post on Komodo boat tour pickup and return times.
What if the departure you want is already full?
It happens, most often for July to September. When a departure is no longer open, we say so and offer alternatives in the same message:
- Another departure on the same boat, often the weekday sailing a few days either side.
- A similar boat in the same category on your dates.
- A private charter for your exact dates, which removes the departure-day constraint.
- Our speedboat day trip from Labuan Bajo if your dates cannot move at all.
- A note of interest: we record your dates and cabin and tell you if one opens through a cancellation. This is a courtesy, not a formal waiting list.
How do you book, step by step?
- Send your dates and guests. Dates or a range, guest count and children’s ages, and whether the departure day can move.
- Say what you want. A shared cabin, a private cabin on a shared 3D2N open trip, or the whole boat as a private charter.
- Read the status, then say yes. We tell you what the live calendar shows for your exact dates; it is not a reservation. Once you say proceed, the desk re-verifies the cabin, places the 2×24-hour hold in office hours, and sends the reservation form, the Terms and Conditions and your deposit link.
- Deposit, confirmation, then flights. Return the form and signed Terms, pay the deposit stated on the link, and send the receipt. The invoice is your written confirmation; only then book flights.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should we book a 3D2N Komodo boat tour for August 2027?
As soon as your dates are fixed. Guests who booked with us in 2026 did so about two months ahead, and August sits inside the July to September period we most often answer with alternatives. The 2027 dates are published, so an August 2027 cabin can be held and confirmed on deposit now.
Can you hold a cabin for us while we confirm our flights?
Yes. Our sales team re-verifies the cabin during office hours (09:00 to 17:00 WITA), places a 2×24-hour hold and sends your reservation form and personal deposit link. The cabin is secured once the deposit on that link is paid. If payment is not received within 48 hours, the hold is released.
What is the difference between available, on hold and confirmed?
Available means our live calendar showed the cabin unbooked for your dates when we checked; nothing is reserved and allocations can still move. On hold means a person at the desk has set the cabin aside for 2×24 hours while you pay. Confirmed means the deposit is received and verified; the invoice is your written confirmation.
How much deposit secures a 2027 booking, and when is the balance due?
The deposit is the amount stated on your payment link. Under our published Payment and Billing Policy the standard schedule is a 50% deposit; other schedules are on our Terms and Conditions page. The balance is due on the balance date printed on your invoice; close to departure the desk confirms in writing whether full payment is required.
What happens if the departure we want is already full?
We say so and offer alternatives in the same message: another departure on the same boat, a similar boat on your dates, a private charter for fixed dates, or our speedboat day trip. We can also note your interest and tell you if a cabin opens; that is a courtesy, not a formal waiting list.
Are the 2027 open-trip departure dates already published?
Yes. The 2027 weekend and weekday tables for Ayvara, Malca, Catnazse and Naturalia are on each boat’s page, and the open trip page states that the 2027 dates are set (checked 24 September 2026). Send your dates, boat and cabin category; we check that departure and confirm on deposit.
