Komodo Island With Kids: Child Fares, Cabins and 2027 Charter Rates

Visite o « Ilha de Komodo » com a família | Komodo Luxury

Last updated: September 2026 · Prices & availability verified for the 2026/2027 season

Komodo Island with kids works on a private charter: the pace is yours, and the whole boat is priced per package, so children change the price only at a guest-band boundary. Our reservations desk at Komodo Luxury (Labuan Bajo, since 2015) answers family enquiries most days: which ages cope with the dragon walk and Padar, how a child is counted, which cabins take a third or fourth person, and what a Komodo private charter for families with kids costs.

Quick answer (24 September 2026): children aged 3 and above pay the full rate under our booking terms; on a private charter that means they count toward the guest band. A 3D2N whole-boat package starts at USD 6,000 (Malca, 1 to 12 guests, 2027 rate card). Life vests are included; child-sized snorkel gear is not. Park charges are separate.

Is a Komodo boat trip suitable for a family with young children?

Yes, on a private charter, with the pace set by you. Families sail with four- and five-year-olds on our boats, and the captain reorders the day around nap times. We are not aware of a park-wide published minimum age, so what follows is desk practice and the ranger has the final word. We will not promise anyone absolute safety; no honest operator can.

Dragon walks on Komodo Island and Rinca are led by park rangers; children walk inside the group at the distance the ranger sets. Sightings are never promised; the ranger-guided walk is how you look for them. Young dragons live in trees for their first years, and rangers point one out when one is nearby. A child aged 3 or above takes a berth and counts toward the band; a child under 3 is not charged as a guest, but tell us the age, because a cot and a cabin that fits one are confirmed with the boat’s management before we quote.

From our reservations desk. Of 11,254 guest messages to our concierge desk (2025 to 2026), 231 touched travelling with children, 2.05% of the total. Behind them, in order: is the trip suitable for a small child; can we add an extra bed or a cot (37 messages, 25 conversations); can our two cabins be next to each other (5 messages, 1 conversation); are life jackets on board (18 messages, 16 conversations). This post takes them in that order, then the 2027 rate card.

Whole boat, or a family cabin on a shared 3D2N?

A Komodo open trip is a scheduled shared sailing of three days and two nights, sold per cabin, on a fixed Friday-to-Sunday or Monday-to-Wednesday rhythm, with one itinerary for everyone on board. A private charter is the whole boat for your group alone, priced per package by guest band, on dates you choose; the whole-boat private charter page lists the boats sold this way. One family of four on a normal schedule is usually well served by a family cabin on the Komodo open trip page, from USD 300 per person in Malca’s Triple Room with three sharing (2026 and 2027 rate, checked 24 September 2026). A child under 5, two families, or a wish to move Padar to a cooler hour points to the whole boat.

Which boat fits a family, and which cabins take a third or fourth person?

Four phinisi are on our 2027 rate card, all departing Labuan Bajo through the same desk. Choose by cabin configuration, not cabin count; an extra bed exists only where the cabin list says so.

Family of 4 or 5: one family cabin plus one couple cabin

A family of four fits one 4-person cabin, but most parents ask for two: children in the family cabin, parents in a double. Malca: Quad Room plus a Double Room. Catnazse: a Grandis family room plus a Grandis deluxe. Naturalia: Breeze or Aurea plus a Lagoon double. Ayvara: the Master with its extra bed plus a Deluxe. Five guests sit inside the lowest band on every boat.

Family of 6 to 8: two family cabins or three doubles

Six to eight usually means teenagers or grandparents, who do not want a bunk in their parents’ cabin, so the desk plans three or four doubles: Ayvara’s Superior and Deluxe doubles for eight, or Catnazse’s two Grandis family rooms plus two Cafasa superiors. Eight is still the first band on Ayvara and Naturalia; on Malca and Catnazse it runs to 12.

Two families or three generations: 9 to 12 and above

Two families on one boat is the configuration we quote most often. Nine to twelve guests stay in the 1 to 12 band on Malca and Catnazse, and move to 9 to 15 on Ayvara and 9 to 16 on Naturalia; above twelve, Naturalia has a third band, 17 to 24. The grandparents’ cabin usually decides the boat. Whether two cabins sit next to each other is confirmed in writing per boat and date; this page makes no claim about which cabins adjoin. The comparison for 2 to 24 guests is in which Komodo boat fits your group.

What does a family charter cost on the 2027 rate card?

Every figure below is per private charter, per package, for the whole boat, from the B2C 2027 rate card (Final Edition, 11 September 2026), checked 24 September 2026; the card prices packages, not nights. Rates are presented for review and are not a booking offer; itinerary, services, taxes, payment and cancellation terms are confirmed in your quotation.

Malca’s card adds an additional-guest line beyond 18 guests, to her capacity of 21: USD 300 per guest on 3D2N and USD 450 on 4D3N, applied as confirmed in the quotation. Malca and Ayvara carry the same figures in 2026 and 2027; Catnazse and Naturalia rise in 2027. The package covers boat and crew, all meals, water, coffee and tea, a guide, snorkelling gear and life vests, photo and video documentation, and hotel transfers on the Labuan Bajo mainland; gratuities, flights, alcohol and the park ticket sit outside it.

The Komodo National Park ticket is set under PP 36/2024 as displayed by the Balai: IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, IDR 50,000 per Indonesian visitor per day (IDR 75,000 on Sundays and public holidays); our desk registers guests, pays the park and lists the park line separately on the invoice. Children are registered by name like adults. Since 22 September 2026 entry is only on the date printed on the e-ticket; quota is the park’s, confirmed at registration, never promised. Tickets are non-refundable; see our note on the 22 September 2026 quota announcement.

Do children pay full price, and how do they count on the rate card?

Our booking terms have one line on children: children aged 3 years and above are charged the full rate. On a private charter you pay for the boat, not per head, so a child aged 3 or above counts as one guest toward the band: 2 adults and 3 children are 5 guests, inside the first band on every boat. We publish no reduced child rate, and the extra bed is not priced separately on a private charter; it sits inside the package.

Are life jackets provided, and what is the day like with children on board?

Life vests are included on every sailing under our booking terms, and the crew hands them out for water activities and on the tender; parents remain responsible for their children throughout. Whether child sizes are carried on your boat is confirmed in writing once you give the children’s ages, before you pay a deposit. Child-sized masks, snorkels and fins are not carried for children under 10, so bring a fitted set. The Harbour Master regulates all sailing, so any itinerary is tentative and may change with sea conditions.

A 3D2N with children runs Kelor, Manjarite and the Kalong bats on day one; Padar at dawn, Pink Beach, the ranger-led Komodo walk and Manta Point on day two; a morning snorkel and the return to Labuan Bajo by late morning on day three. On a private charter we move the pieces: the Komodo walk first thing, a nap instead of a fourth stop, the tender rather than the reef for a nervous swimmer. Note allergies and children’s meals on the booking form; special provisioning is confirmed with the boat’s management first. How do we book a family charter, and how far ahead?

Bookings reach our desk about two months ahead; for school holidays, ask as soon as your dates are fixed. The steps, in order:

  1. Send your dates and headcount. Adults, the children’s ages, duration and any boat preference, from the private yacht charter Komodo page or by WhatsApp; we check availability for your exact dates and confirm it in writing.
  2. Agree the cabin plan. The desk names the cabins for your family and where an extra bed or a cot is possible; the quotation repeats them with the package figure for your band.
  3. Hold, then pay the deposit on your quotation. The desk can hold a boat for 2 x 24 hours while you confirm, with hold and deposit terms in writing before you pay. The balance is due on the balance date printed on your invoice; cancellation and refunds follow the booking terms on your invoice and our T&C page.
  4. Register the park tickets. Send each traveller’s full name as in the passport, passport number, nationality and gender, children included; the desk registers the dated e-tickets and confirms them in writing.
  5. Book flights last. The boat docks between 11:00 and 12:00 on the last day, so book departure flights from Labuan Bajo at 14:00 or later, and ask for the docking time in writing first. Arrive a day early; a family-friendly Labuan Bajo resort near the harbour suits the 08:00 pick-up.

Frequently asked questions

Which Komodo charter boat fits a family of five?

Any of the four; the desk decides by cabins. Malca’s Quad Room plus a Double Room, or Catnazse’s Grandis family room plus a Grandis deluxe, keeps children and parents in their own cabins. Five guests sit in the first band on every boat: from USD 6,000 for 3D2N on Malca (2027 rate card), park charges separate.

Do children pay full price on a private charter in Komodo?

Under our booking terms, children aged 3 years and above are charged the full rate. On a private charter the price is per package for the whole boat, so a child counts as one guest toward the band, and the package changes only at a band boundary. A child under 3 is not charged as a guest.

Is a Komodo private charter suitable for a 5-year-old?

Families do sail with children of this age, and the whole boat lets you set the pace. We are not aware of a park-wide published minimum age; the ranger sets the rules on the dragon walks, Padar can stop at the first viewpoint, and the crew keeps young swimmers to sheltered stops. Bring child-sized snorkelling gear; it is not carried.

Can we add an extra bed or a cot for a child in the cabin?

An extra bed exists only where the cabin list says so: Malca’s Master and Deluxe Ocean View, Ayvara’s Master Cabin, and Naturalia’s Coral and Sandal. The family cabins on Catnazse (Grandis 3 and 4) and Naturalia (Breeze, Aurea, Tide) sleep four without one. A cot is confirmed with the boat’s management in the quotation.

Are children’s life jackets provided on board?

Life vests are included on every sailing under our booking terms, and the crew hands them out for water activities and on the tender. Whether child sizes are carried on your boat is confirmed in writing once you give the children’s ages, before you pay the deposit. Child-sized masks, snorkels and fins are not provided.

Can our two cabins be next to each other?

Ask the desk, and we confirm the cabin allocation in writing per boat and per date. This page makes no claim about which cabins adjoin, because the answer depends on the boat and on which cabins are free on your date. On a private charter the whole boat is yours; the question is only which two cabins you use.

How far ahead should a family book a private charter for the school holidays?

Bookings reach our desk about two months ahead; for school holidays, ask as soon as your dates are fixed. We check availability for your exact dates and confirm it in writing; the desk can hold a boat for 2 x 24 hours while you decide. Confirm the boat before buying flights.

Do children need their own Komodo National Park ticket?

Yes. Every visitor is registered by name for a dated e-ticket. The charge is set under PP 36/2024 as displayed by the Balai, IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day; our desk registers guests, pays the park and lists the park line separately on the invoice. Since 22 September 2026 entry is only on the ticketed date; quota is never promised.
