The system was trialled from late 2025 and enforced through 2026, and on 24 April 2026 the Ministry of Forestry set out the annual quota and the adaptive approach behind it. • Protecting the environment. Visitor numbers have grown year on year, and that popularity came at a cost: eroded trails on Padar, pressure on the reefs, and disturbance in the dragons’ habitat on Komodo and Rinca. Capping entries and spreading them through the day gives the islands room to recover and keeps the coral and the wildlife in better condition for the decade ahead.
• A better visit. Fewer people on the Padar ridge at first light, shorter waits at the ranger station, and time to photograph a dragon without a queue forming behind you. The quota is not only a limit. It changes the feel of the park.
• Safety and order. Smaller groups are easier for rangers to guide and protect. Sessions and dated, name-matched tickets mean the park knows who is ashore and when, which makes trekking in dragon habitat safer for everyone, guests and rangers alike.

In an April 2026 announcement, Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry described an annual quota of 365,000 visitors for Komodo National Park and said it would be reviewed as conditions and infrastructure change. The park does not publish a daily number and manages demand date by date. The announcement does not confirm a 2027 allocation. South Padar: a session-controlled zone

The most visited zone, the South Padar viewpoint, is where the caps matter most. South Padar is the park’s session-controlled zone. SiORA shows the sessions and any cap that apply to your date, and the desk confirms the session assigned to your itinerary.

• Session I: the morning session. The sunrise slot on Padar, and the one with the strongest demand.
• Session II: the late-morning session. Often a little quieter than the sunrise and sunset slots.
• Session III: the afternoon session. Sunset views and softer afternoon light.

Advance booking is mandatory

Because entries are capped, every ticket is registered before the visit through SiORA, the platform that runs the park’s digital entry permit. Do not plan on buying a ticket on arrival: once the allocation for a date is used there is nothing to fall back on, even if you have travelled a long way. Timeline: from 2025 trials to enforcement in 2026

The system was introduced through trials and simulations from October to December 2025, with further test runs in early 2026 and enforcement from April 2026. On 24 April 2026 the Ministry of Forestry published the annual quota and the adaptive approach. In July 2026 the ministry confirmed Komodo National Park among the units given PPK-BLU status, with service-tariff regulations to follow. The entry permit, also called the e-ticket, grants access on your selected date and, where sessions apply, your selected time window. SiORA is the park’s digital reservation platform. It handles e-ticket registration for the entry permit and the special permits known as SIMAKSI. You can use it yourself, or let an operator register your ticket with the boat manifest. Both routes end in the same place: a named, dated ticket that rangers can check at Loh Liang on Komodo Island, Loh Buaya on Rinca, or the Padar landing.

Option 1: Do-it-yourself booking via the SiORA app

Registering your own ticket is straightforward once you know the sequence. Follow these steps:

1. Download the SiORA app. The app is available for Android and iOS. Android users can download it via the official website (siora.id) or Google Play; iPhone users find it on the App Store. The interface includes English.
2. Register and set up an account. Create an account with your email or phone number, verify the OTP or confirmation email, and complete your profile. Each traveller needs a profile, so if you are booking for a group, enter every visitor’s name and details.
3. Select “Komodo Reservation” (Entry Permit). SiORA handles general tourist e-tickets and special permits (SIMAKSI). For a normal visit you need the standard entry ticket. Choose the date you plan to enter the park.
4. Choose the number of visitors, the destination and the session. Permits and quotas are calculated per person. If you plan to visit South Padar Island, select it explicitly as a destination, because access to that zone is regulated and registered separately in the app. Then choose an available session from the morning, late-morning and afternoon sessions shown in SiORA. Plan to enter within your selected session; rangers are not obliged to admit late arrivals. SiORA also lets you add tickets for other regulated activities so that everything you plan is registered under the same permit.
5. Provide visitor details. Enter each visitor’s passport or identity number, full name, nationality, phone number and city. The park uses these to personalise each ticket, verify identity and prevent duplicate bookings. Every detail must match the document you will show on the day.
6. Complete the payment. Payment is cashless inside the app. The amount shown is the park authority’s current tariff for your date and nationality under Government Regulation 36/2024; with the park’s PPK-BLU status from July 2026, tariff rules can change, so trust the figure in the app rather than an older article. The app has relied on Indonesian bank virtual accounts and local e-wallets, and card support for foreign visitors has been limited, so check the payment options before you depend on booking yourself.
7. Save your e-ticket or QR code. The app issues a digital permit, typically a QR code or booking ID. Keep it on your phone; rangers scan it or check it against the list at the landing.
8. Park entry on the day. Be at the landing on time for your session. Session I means a very early departure from Labuan Bajo or a night on board near the islands. Carry your passport, because the name on the ticket may be checked against it. Miss the window and the visit can count as a no-show.
9. Follow park rules. A ranger accompanies every trek on Komodo and Rinca. Stay with your guide, keep to the trails and respect the wildlife.

No, not if you are sailing with an operator. Independent visitors, typically those hiring a local boat for a day, register themselves in the app and pay in the app. On a Komodo Luxury open trip or private charter the reservations desk registers every guest’s ticket from the passenger details on your booking, for the dates of the sailing, and confirms it in writing, so nobody in your group opens the app.

What the desk needs from you is the same information SiORA asks of an independent visitor: full name exactly as printed in your passport, nationality, passport number and a contact number. Send these when you confirm the booking rather than the week before departure, because tickets are dated and name-matched, and any correction after registration means re-issuing. Carry the passport on the trip: nationality determines the tariff class, and spot checks at ranger stations do occur.

Joining a boat with another provider? Ask one question before you pay: is the park ticket for my date registered in my name? A written yes, with the date, is the answer you want. Two points keep this table honest. What 2026 Showed About Peak Dates, and What It Means for 2027

The first full year under registration taught one lesson: a dated ticket under a cap behaves like a seat on a flight, not a museum ticket. On the dates with the strongest demand, July, August and the Christmas to New Year window, availability has to be confirmed rather than assumed, and a late change of date is hardest to accommodate. Sunrise sessions on Padar carry the most demand of all.

For 2027 there is a second layer. The ministry described the quota as adaptive and has not published a 2027 allocation, so nobody can promise a 2027 date today.
