It appears at low tide as a strip of bright white sand surrounded by shallow, crystal-clear water, and submerges again when the tide rises. It is accessible only by boat and exists for a few hours each day.
Yes — the shallow, calm water immediately around the sandbar makes it one of the more family-friendly stops in Raja Ampat. Children can play on the sand and wade in the shallows. However, deeper water begins within wading distance; children should remain on the sandbar or immediate shallows under close adult supervision. Life jackets should be available on the vessel.
Reef-safe mineral sunscreen (no chemical sunscreens — they damage coral reefs); a hat and rash guard for sun protection on the open sandbar; a waterproof bag for electronics; an underwater camera or housing; water and snacks (there are no facilities on the sandbar). Snorkel gear is worth bringing for the surrounding shallow water.
