Dafalen is a karst hill viewpoint in Misool, Raja Ampat, known for its naturally formed heart-shaped lagoon surrounded by limestone islands. From the summit, it offers a panoramic view of turquoise waters and scattered islets, making it one of the most iconic and photogenic landscapes in Raja Ampat. For travelers on a Raja Ampat liveaboard or private yacht charter, Dafalen Peak is often included as a signature Misool stop, adding a scenic land perspective to an itinerary otherwise centered around remote lagoons, snorkeling sites, and island exploration.

Dafalen is located on Misool Island, the southernmost of the four major islands in the Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua, Indonesia. The Dafalen Peak area itself is situated in northern Misool, within the island’s karst-dominated landscape and remote coastal surroundings. It lies approximately 200 km south of Waisai and around 360 km from Sorong, the nearest city with an international gateway at Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ).

Each season offers its own atmosphere, but this period consistently delivers the most refined experience at the viewpoint.

  • November – February (Peak Window): The most optimal months, with minimal rainfall and exceptional clarity, offering expansive views across Misool’s karst seascape.
  • May – September (Green Season): A more lush and vibrant time in Misool, with softer light and a different scenic mood across the surrounding islands.

There is no airport on Misool, so access to Dafalen Peak is entirely by sea. The journey typically begins in Sorong (SOQ), the main gateway to Raja Ampat, followed by a transfer to Waisai before continuing south into the Misool region. From there, Dafalen Peak is reached by speedboat or Raja Ampat private yacht charter, where access to remote locations is seamlessly arranged within a curated island journey.

The hike is short (10–15 min up) but steep and physically demanding, particularly in the lower section where wooden stairs have high step gaps and some missing boards. Most fit adults manage well. Those with limited mobility or joint problems should assess carefully before attempting.

Children who can climb stairs confidently can complete the hike with close adult supervision. Always keep children within arm's reach near any exposed edge.

Closed-toe shoes with grip — hiking shoes or trainers are ideal; sandals and flip-flops are not suitable. Bring at least 500 ml water per person, sun protection, and a camera. Lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended given the humidity and exertion.
